Awesome machine, especially for crafters or teachers om your life. I was able to use my wife's to cut custom screen protector for my Samsung Watch using old phone screen protectors.
The Maker can cut more heavy-duty materials and can do some engraving too. You're mostly limited to vinyl, paper, and light fabrics with Air, but if you just want to make stickers and iron-ons it's a solid machine. Just be aware that the two lines of machines use different blade housings and don't fit on the other so be careful when buying other blade types.
Another word to the wise, you do not need to buy any of Cricut's brand tools or materials except for the cutter blades and maybe the grip-pads. Cricut overcharges for stuff like transfer tape, vinyl, and basic scrapers that you can get much cheaper off-brand versions of.
Use code HIP2SAVE10 to save an additional 10% off (on top of the 10% Access discount).
Brings it down to around $155 before tax.
Edited to add: valid on the Cricut website

FYI, I found this description of the difference between what's free (Cricut Design Space) and what requires a subscription after the initial free trial (Cricut Access):
While they appear to charge shipping, you can get free shipping and 10% off ($18) when you add one month of Cricut access (10,00 images + projects +fonts), cancel any time. In cart price is $171.98. I have no idea if they charge tax, as you have to create an account to get that far (I went to the site to learn more about the machine).

Bottom line, if you supply your own artwork files, there's no on-going fees. If you want to access their library, you need to pay.
Maker has more capabilities compared to this one. Plus the Maker is newer.
