Actually the promo ($5 off making it $26.99) says "online only" so definitely don't go to a store. (people still go to stores?). And if you have Target RedCard (I recommend), you get free shipping on most items, including this, and an extra 5% off. Just ordered for delivery in 2 days, pretty good!

"Just use a $200 dollar power tool" sounds pretty smart-butt to me. Sharpening garden tools comes with the territory, and Fiskars makes nice stuff.

I don't think anybody who's even remotely interested in this deal has "any branch more than 2 inches or so in diameter" in mind when it caught their eye.

Wow 400' feet of fence....how long is your extension cord.
I have a few nice 100' cords. I have power close to the fence on both ends.
And for those wondering...
It is only half my fence line which butts up against my woods on 2 sides (side and back). So I use 200' cord at the house from one end of the fence and a 200' cord from my back garage for the other end.

im not trying to be a smart butt, i mean this seriously. just use a sawzall w a wood cutter blade. its so so so much easier and so much better. and quicker.

plus this is the cheap set and well lose its edge quicky. unless you sharpen yourself, dont do it. any branch more than an 2 inches or so in diameter will be a pain with these cheap ones.
Agreed that this is the cheap set, I used to have these in the past, and went to the better ones (especially the loppers, the high leverage high capacity ones are great and have lifetime warranty). Even these cheap hand pruners died after a season.

I disagree on the sawzall though. For proper pruning you want a nice clean cut, the sawzall will leave a very rough torn up cut and often split and damage the branch.

I have both of these and they are very good.

Pruner for $10 - https://www.homedepot.com/p/Fiska.../100046021
Not top of the line and not as good as the classic Corona brand ones but these have lasted years, been a very good value. Lifetime warranty. Mine have bent a bit and I just opened a warranty claim, no response yet probably due to corona, but we'll see how that goes. Even if not, I got my $10 out of them easily.

High leverage/high capacity loppers
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Fiska.../203273598
Again, not the best out there, but $25 and they've lasted years of cutting through up to 1.5 or 2" branches with ease.

Grab one of these and keep them constantly sharp with very little effort (along with your lawnmower blade, axes, knives, scissors, etc).

Dull pruners and loppers do a lot of damage and require a lot more effort. A few passes with this tool after or before each use and it's a dream and you won't bend the tool or damage your plants.

For dead branches, I have an old pair of ratcheting anvil pruners that really make that task easier. Each squeeze tightens and clicks so you don't break your hand trying to do it all with one squeeze. Fiskars does make a set, but these are only for use on dead branches, they will crush and injure live branches.

Milwaukee Super Sawzall, it will cut through pretty much anything though.

Very helpful post for a gardening noob like myself, grabbing those items instead, thanks!

Fiskars PowerGear is SO MUCH BETTER than their regular line. Their regular line will do the job as will any pruner, lopper, etc... but their higher end line (as reflected by price) will be much much more enjoyable to use and will be significantly better. You will notice a difference. You won't need to use a recip saw or any power tool unless you're cutting really thick branches, so thick that you can't fit into the jaws of the lopper.

Everything will work, but if you don't mind spending a little bit more or wait for a sale on the higher end line, I highly recommend that route.

If you're really just interested in the loppers, Fiskar makes a compound lopper that's about this price. The gear means a lot less effort to make the cut.

I love my Fiskars tools and have had no issues with them getting dull. They work well for fall and spring cleanup. I just used the lopper tool to cut the suckers off a couple of my fruit trees with no issue. And I used the pruner to cut a grape vine off of my garden fence. These are not meant to cut down a 2" branch.

Maybe it's because I'm female, but I have no use for a sawzall. I have had these tools for probably 15 years and they work well for me.
U might want to try the sawall. I have Fiskar loopers and a Ryobi sawzall (bought with a SD combo deal).

Let my Mom and one of her neighbors (both retirees) use the sawzall. They were able to use it (supervised of course). Mom can still use the loopers but her hand strenghth is waning.

P.S. you'd be surprised how much easier/cleaner the loopers cut when sharpened regularly. 😉 Difficult to notice how they gradually dull. Much like noticing how quickly teenagers grow only when you after time away from them.

All right Mr. mathematician what if his fence is cubed 100' x 100' how long of a extension cord will he need to reach the back?
One could over compensate by using basic geometry and calculate the hypotenuse (141'), however, it depends on where the outlet(s) actually is/are (e.g., one in the back yard and another in the front, or on the side, etc.)

A definitive answer for the reality of his yard can't be known without that info, unless you want to assume he has no house, no multiple outlets, etc.
