They may go bankrupt - buying this is putting money into the pockets of the execs.
That is right. I wouldn't buy GCs of any companies except the very largest I know will survive.
I really like AMC and their $20 A-List program especially. I would hate for them to go under or end A-List, but I'm used to expecting things to change for the worse. Pretty much if AMC goes under or stops A-List, then instead of seeing virtually every movie that comes out for under $2 each ($20/12) I'd rarely see movies in the theater any more. If Hollywood thinks they're going to eliminate theaters and do "straight to streaming" releases, there's no way I'm paying more than $6 to rent a new movie considering the cost of Tuesday matinees without A-List was $5 + tax. Look at Trolls World Tour rental for $19.99. Dream on...
I literally walked away from my monthly program with AMC on the last day of Feb. They said if you quit you can't come back for 6 months. Jan-March suck for movies-you have to get lucky or have shitty taste to find a few good movies. I was also worrying about the virus spreading in late Jan...but I toughed it out February. Def. not buying any passes...this virus is slowing or stopping production of films so there are multiple reasons to wait-and-see.
I would not be funding an industry that is drastically affected by the lockdown and even when it's over I don't see people rushing back. If they go bust your gc would be worthless

It seems like they were able to secure some fund to stay open.

great to be able to have a nice sit-down dinner again before the movies....
after the movies, maybe go to a night club and dance our worries away.
finally, end the night(or morning) with drinks at a crowded pub.
.
Most blockbuster movies have been postponed or moved direct to digital.
What's worth watching this summer?
