This is a pretty well known set and the only difference between this 204 piece set and the popular 192 piece set during Christmas sale is the 12 wrenches. Given the 192 piece set was sold at $120, this should be a decent deal as long as one thinks the 12 wrenches can justify the additional $30. For me it is okay to have them there so that the set is 'complete'.

I also searched past deals. Except several years back people got it at lower prices from Sears via a price adjustment, this is the lowest it has ever been. Review is good too. So I went ahead and placed the order.

It is possible that the price might drop further. So I paid attention when checking out. The expected delivery date is May 24 (today is April 24). So there is a lot of time left to cancel and replace the order in case price drops.

As far as I can see, the only short coming of this set is that the 1/4 drive set is missing the 5.5 mm sockets and the wrenches seem to be 12 points. (I think I once needed a 5.5mm to fix a laptop computer.) Otherwise this set seem to cover every bolts/nuts I have ever dealt with. I think I shall try to buy one shallow and one deep 5.5mm sockets to complete the set.

Most non-ratcheting box end wrenches are going to be 12-point. They only require enough room to swing 30° to use and reposition, while 6-point wrenches require 60°.

Expected delivery date is now May 16 (instead of your May 24). They float all the time. I had an Amazon order slated for four weeks out when ordered in late March on a different item. It came a week later.

I bought the 192 pc when HD had them on sale. I believe Amazon matched their price on that particular day also. I had researched all the Dewalt Tool sets beforehand and concluded the 192 had more sockets because they didn't include the wrenches. Wrenches are actually less expensive then sockets for adding on. You can purchase a decent set of wrenches, and get roll up bags for them to carry with this set if needed.

I looked at the set closely again, and I am surprised to see that it is missing a 12mm wrench? That is kind of surprising. I have a few extra 12mm wrenches. Not a big deal though. Given a set of 9 DeWalt metric wrenches is only $25 on Amazon, it does seem to be a good deal IF we can get the 192 set at $120 again. I almost never use SAE wrenches. For those who do, this set might still be better. (Almost all cars, no matter country of orgin, are using metric fasteners now.) SAE stuff are still used in plumbing and building. But they often use larger sizes.

If you're willing to wait, Costco has a 173 piece for $80 quite regularly. I've seen it at least once a year in mine.

I also got the 192 pc set (DWMT75049) a couple months back when it was $120. Either set is pretty near a completist socket set for DIY'er needs. All 6 point sockets, which was a plus for me, including 6 point throughout the 1/2" drive sockets, which you typically don't see in the consumer grade mechanics sets from the home improvement stores. The 192 pc is made in Taiwan, I assume the 204 pc would be too.

If you haven't seen these sets in person, they're big. To maintain the folding layout, the cases are 2' wide and nearly as tall, and you're carrying 40 pounds of tools in them. I think I would have preferred this in a conventional shaped toolbox with a stacked tray or drawer layout, a more squared off box would be less awkward to deal with. That said, layout of the sockets within the case is good and easy to find what you're looking for. Sockets stayed secured during shipping.

I was able to use an SAE 7/32 socket instead of a 5.5mm to remove a steering column!

I have other DeWalt sets and they are great tools. Made in Taiwan. I'd buy this set if I needed more tools.

The ratchet drives are definitely heavier than most. Not bulky (for example a larger head might cause problems where access is tight - not a problem here), just very solid due to the relatively thick and ergonomic handle. It gives a feeling of quality and strength. I like that, but can see how some might prefer a lighter option.

I have this set. It's great if you need a lot of sockets. It feels like really good quality. The problem is it's huge and really heavy. To open it up you'll need a lot of space. The sockets stay in the case very well, almost too well. I honestly probably would look for something smaller if I could do it over.
