5/5/2020: Now...$100 : only after instant redemption rebate ($200) and paying 6 months of service (after 6 mts , u will get $100 virtual prepaid card).
Note:

>>Store may insist on selling plans >$30, i.e. the $60 plan or a $40 plan, and $6 monthly charge for insurance. They may add on a "free" pet tracker for tax (on $100), open up a phone line for $15 activation plus taxes and $10 monthly charge. Some have reported taking these charges off voids the $100 virtual prepaid card promotion despite the store representative saying otherwise. Speaking to the promotion reps from (800) 999-6389 and they only mention being on the $40 line is sufficient.

Don't know about the rest of you but the $100 rebate does not come back to you automatically. You need to apply at https://promo.metrobyt-mobile.com/. I took me some looking around to find this URL. Metro didn't tell me and the retailer I bought my phone at said to watch out for a text message from Metro that never came.

Just to clarify 6 months is the term needed to unlock the device. There's no 6 month requirement for the promotion (or penalty beforehand), just if you wanted to then the use the phone on another carrier.

Edit: Thanks to those who replied that it does not work on T-Mobile while locked.
For 4 phones (max), you are looking a little better but not by too much (cost per phone drops by $22.50 assuming the fees are only $5 cumulatively for all four phones).
Now I just have to figure out the porting...
