I wonder if I could just wait for 6 months, document my communication with Metro customer service, than switch to a different provider and dispute the extra $60 in tracker service charges with my credit card.

What do you guys think? This is such a bs, i was screaming on the phone with their customer service today for an hour. So mad, I can't believe a public company is allowed to do this crap and not getting any class action suits.
They already have one lawsuit , it's called New York. I'm thinking those stores are doing it since they are about to get termination orders and won't be allowed to sell metro service. It's not time to sue metro for this shit, it's time to sue the store owner and the business. This will show them a lot of things

Does anyone know if I need to keep the service active for 6 months on this phone in order to unlock it?

I just can't handle the thought of going into one of their stores again. The corporate store is as bad as any. You leave with a form of retail PTSD.

When a store experience is good it's good. But when it's bad? Yep, never again.

For all the crap Boost gets, the stores I go to are a breeze. In and out, no games, add ons, etc.

I've been to a couple of different cell providers, some even lower end than Metro. No one's ever tried to push bullshit like this.

Update: Ok, just spoke to a customer service rep. They said the $40 promo plan was the bare minimum to get the $100 gift card in 6 months, and it is sufficient. They will get rid of the pet tracker and refund the activation/plan costs/taxes as a credit on next month's bill. They can get rid of the insurance on next month. They don't have any rebate forms at the moment to fill out.

So in total, after the adjustments I paid $400 + $40 - $200= $240 for the phone, $15 for the activation fee, $3 for activation taxes, $6 for the insurance, and $40 for the month's service.

Before adjustments: $332 first payment and $56 for another 5 months, then a $100 rebate.

After adjustments: $304 first payment and $40 for another 5 months, then a $100 rebate.

I still have no idea what rebate forms to fill or submit, I don't see anything on their promo.metrobyt-mobile.com website for my account. *shrugs*

How do I know if I'm eligible for the rebate?
You will receive an SMS message letting you know you are eligible and the link to use for claiming your reward.

I didn't receive an SMS for the promotion I am eligible for?
There can be various reasons as to why you didn't receive an SMS for the promotion, here are some common items to consider:

Did you purchase the required product for the offer?
Did you activate the required product within the offer timeframe?
Did you meet any rate plan requirements of the offer?
Have you met the minimum length of service for the offer?
Remember, some of our offers require that you have active service & maintain that service for a specific period of time prior to being eligible for the offer.

How do I submit for the rebate?
Once you receive your initial SMS, simply complete the online submission process on this website. The mobile phone number submitted should be the primary number on the account. Please keep a copy of all submitted materials for your records.
So that looks to be it. Be on service for 6 months, get an SMS text, go onto website to fill out rebate forms, get rebate.

At this price, it only makes sense if you are on metropcs.

Go to facebook metropcs page. Talk to Customer Service so they will cancel insurance and any other add-on. They will not refund that amount but the amount will go towards your next bill.

I have done 6 phones over the years, both iphone and android, and all unlocked at 6 months though I only paid for the first month, However this is YMMV as a minority of posters here report phone not being unlocked.

Don't think so. The TOS always stated that you needed the phone to be active for 6 months to get to unlocked. You won't know till 6 months from now if they actually plan to enforce this.

Or if you already went through the buying process, as they won't refund most of their fees (so pay up or spend $90 for nothing). It's not the worst deal tbh, $100 for the phone, $65 in fees and taxes, and $240 for six months of service comes out to a tad over $400. Unless I get verification that I can drop to the $30 and shave off $50 for the next few months, I'd take the Visible deal over this in hindsight.

The phone reps did get rid of $18 for the $15 activation and $3 taxes as credits to next month, they said I need to go to the store to get the $10 monthly service fee refunded because the rep lied, and to return the pet tracker for the $8 in taxes. I'll definitely hit up Facebook if they refuse.

I've had luck with fb reps. They will do it in a heartbeat.
Also, get the rep name and store ID(it should be on metropcs's website). They can't do stuff like that.
They used to do that here in NYC but it stopped for the most part. Corporate stores will not do it(anymore) but retailer stores...Yeah they will charge you taxes for the full MSRP.
There is one retail store 5 min walking distance from me and they will try to push anything they can and hold your account hostage. So, I'd rather drive 25 mins to a corporate store and get a peace of mind with the guy who's always helping me with these metro deals.

The rep did not give us the phone and made us stand around for 2 hours just so she could say "I'm sorry for the wait, here, I'll give you a free pet tracker for it. I will still give you this free pet tracker even if you refuse (because I need commission for opening up a new line and charging you for it even though I said you wouldn't be charged)."

The way T-Mobile did it when I bought a phone from them was to give us the phone and tell us it'll be ported in 2 hours. Metro is being super trashy keeping us there longer just to sneak in a service line and various taxes.

Should have told them, if I'm not getting the phone in exactly 5 min , your leaving without a single cent being paid
