Just got this deal. The store employees indicated the $60 plan was the only way to get the promotion. Of course I disagreed, asked to call the manager who said the same thing, I called the promotion number (800) 999-6389 with the employees there and they ran the deal with the $50 plan and gave me $10 back in cash and I'll renew next month on the $40 plan. Bit of a circus to get it right, but they did, so I sent the employees a pizza for their efforts and left a bad Google review for the manager. That'll show em.

any thoughts about metro's service compared to T-mobile? Do they deprioritize? metro? I've always had excellent service with T-Mobile in the past and if metro´s is really the same I would be intrigued. Is included texting/data abroad a Metro feature too?

It's Prepaid. You can use it as a door stopper if you like.

Yes.

It's almost certainly like every Metro deal - it depends on the store you go to. There will be stores that won't sell you the phone unless you get the $50 or $60 plan.

There's a corporate store near me that won't let you get one of those "free with port-in and unlimited plan" phones unless you get the $60 plan as well as the $10 premium security bundle. Any "free" phone ends up being $60+$10+activation+tax.
There must be a way we can shame these non-compliant corporate stores who make up rules as they go along

Looks like the corporate stores are closed due to the pandemic.

Ended up getting this because I needed something now and this fits my needs. I have two local stores. One was out of stock (she said basically forever) and the other never answered their phone. I called the closest corporate store and they had stock and said a $40 plan would be fine (local store said $40 plan was fine too). I've been a long time Ting user and needed a number to port so bought some number off ebay for $6 and it worked.

Just like many have said they would not sell the phone at the discounted price unless I bought the $60 plan. They said if I change to the $40 in the first three months I'll be charged the promotional credit I received when buying. I messaged Metro on Facebook but after one day they haven't replied. Holiday and all so we'll give it some time. Any advice on other ways to contact Metro about the legitimacy regarding being forced to keep the $60 plan?

I went to a Corp store in Pleasant Hill CA and was able to get phone with 40 plan. No hesitation.

Just wanted to post a follow up regarding the store telling me I must have the $60/m plan to qualify for the promo. I called the general customer service number and found out two crucial things. 1) They used the wrong area code for the number I ported. 2) The corporate store actually signed me up for the $50/m plan plus $10/m insurance. Never once was insurance discussed. They wouldn't commit to saying I'd still get the $100 rebate card after six months, but they said changing my plan to $40 and dropping the insurance would NOT cause me to lose the instant rebate I received. Scumbag store clerk.

If the number has been off of the TMO "family" for 90+ days, you can use it for port promos.

I just did this with an old Metro/Mint burner number that I camped out on Cricket ($15/month plan) and ported back into Metro.

That was my #1 issue with metropcs when I had them several years ago. Even at corporate stores they add on insurance or some other feature "accidentally" even when explicitly stating you don't want any additional features and add-ons.

If you haven't down so already, call customer support, switch your plan and get credit for your future bill in the amount equal to what you were overcharged versus what you asked for. They were at least good about giving credit for future use. If the person you first speak with can't do that, a supervisor definitely can.
