Vizio SB36514 - 9 Channel (5.1.4) Dolby Atmos Soundbar - $499

Vizio SB36514-G6 36" 5.1.4 Channel Home Theater Sound System and Wireless Subwoofer with Dolby Atmos - $499 at Costco

Vizio 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos soundbar system features a 2 front upward firing speakers and 2 rear upward firing speakers to allow for Dolby Atmos. Subwoofer + Rear speakers connect wirelessly to main soundbar unit.

Reviews on this model are overall very strong. There is an older model that is only 5.1.2 (no rear upward firing speakers) that got mediocre reviews in large part due to software issues. This model seems to have solved those problems.

This went for $480 last Prime Day but I've rarely seen it discounted.

A very common use case for these ATMOS speakers is to play offline ATMOS content on these. However, ATMOS passthrough from a PC is not a straightforward process, and is not easily accessible information with a Google search. Thanks to nadus, I've realized that I had set-up these speakers incorrectly and though I had ATMOS for more than one year. But after some back and forth and tons of research, I've figured out the right set. I've consolidated multiple internet sources and provided a couple of steps below to get ATMOS. Please refer to the three steps below if you're struggling with ATMOS sound on these speakers:

Step 0: Hook up your ATMOS source directly to your soundbar (PC/Streaming stick/etc), and hook up soundbar to the ARC port on your TV.
Step 1 & 2: below (sorry didn't want to retype)

https://slickdeals.net/f/14055503-vizio-sb36514-9-channel-5-1-4-dolby-atmos-soundbar-499?p=137722196#post137722196

PS - If you have a newer model TV with eARC, then your TV is capable of doing ATMOS passthrough to your soundbar directly. In that case, your video source can be hooked up directly to the TV. However, if your TV doesn't support eARC, then you HAVE TO connect it to the soundbar directly.

Watchout: If your ATMOS source is a streaming stick like Chromecast Ultra or Fire Stick 4K, then make sure your ARC HDMI port on your TV is HDMI 2.0 and not HDMI 1.4. If it's the latter, then the sticks only display 1080p content and not 4K which means you're limited to 1080p non-ATMOS content on Netflix and Prime. However, you can still force your PC to display 4K at 30Hz on HDMI 1.4.

I have their 5.1.2 from two BFs ago and love it. I know that model gets a bit of hate due to its firmware issues but my experience has been rock solid.

I haven't tested the 5.1.4 but I know their rear upfiring speakers definitely add the extra oomph! This is probably as close to the lowest price you'll get on this set as you can...good deal!!

Might want to change that to 5.1 rather than 9.1

Real upward firing speakers were present in that model also. Also somewhat that 9.1 is misleading in title. It's 5. System not 9. System

I have this and it's sound quality is great. It's a 5.1.4 system not a 9.1

Do you have any issues of the rear sub or speakers disconnecting or the visio going off intermittently that issue seems to plague the 5.1.2 series

Updated title to clarify. Receivers tend to count the height channels in the total (e.g. 9.2 rather than 5.2.4).

To clarify, there are 9 independent speakers (plus the sub), 4 of which are height channels via the upward firing speakers. I've adjusted the title to help make clearer.

I think the Black Friday deal you're talking about was the 5.1.2 system. There were not rear upward firing speakers in that, only front upward firing. Also the 5.1.2 system has had a lot of reports of software issues that caused frequent disconnections.

I've been tracking this system for while and I think has only been cheaper twice. $480 last Prime Day, and $385 for a blink-and-you-miss-it Lightning Deal on Black Friday.

Correct this model has extra upwards firing speakers in satellite. Earlier model has 2 upwards firing speakers only in soundbar. Extra two upward firing speakers in rear speakers must be fun for sure , not bad for $400 , will buy next BF
