That should be fine. SMR drive technology allows for tighter and overlapping tracts, increasing storage density. This comes as a cost of poor write performance, especially if you have to over-write. Its better to think of these drives as for archiving - write occasionally and read many times, rather than a scratch disk where many files are being written over and over.
FYI this is a decent price, ~$30 off from Amazon and is shuckable but if you want to put this into a NAS keep in mind these are SMR drives (AFAICT). If you need 8TB and you're not doing a lot of writes you should be fine.
So much negativity. I use the drives to backup my blu day disks. The speeds are fine, and smr has never been an issue. Furthermore, I have had external seagate drives that have been used continuously for 5+ years with Plex. Seagate has never failed me. Neither has western digital or toshiba or hitachi. Maybe I just have good luck with drives.

If you're backing stuff up this is a great drive. If you're using it for something like Plex, this is a great drive.

If you're editing video or using a NAS, I'd avoid it.

Anyone knows what drives are inside these? Are they 7,200 RPM drives?

I apologize for my ignorance but what do you mean by saying these are smr drives and its okay if you're not doing alot of writing? I understand it could be alot to write so I'll simplify my question: is this a good drive for storing movies to watch off my xbox one x?

You're obviously not entering the codes mentioned.

Rats, the coupon expired on Wednesday, good only two days.

But I was able to apply my $10 Staples Rewards in my account to bring it down another $10.
