Pretty common at this price point. At least in Envy X360 the Rams are user accessible unlike all other Ryzen 4000U Laptops available .
Yeah... just seems wasteful. These companies have access to wholesale RAM, what would 12 or 16GB cost extra? Like $15? It's 2020, and this is a solidly mid-range laptop made in 2020. Guess we can always add more ourselves.
Slim laptop with 8 cores and 8GB of ram when we have phones with 12GB of RAM. I wish they start at 16GB and give an option for 32GB ram.
Then the will charge more. They have that option in their product page but that will increase the price to near $900. And Phones with 12GB is not a real comparison.
Depends on your workload. Ryzen 5 4500U is capable enough for most of the day to day tasks as well as moderate demanding works like Photo and Video editing. So, if that is your requirement, grab that one and may be use the extra money to update the Ram.
Ryzen 7 4700U, on the other hand, its a beast of a Processor which can challenge even the Intel 45W 6 Core Processors like i7-9750H in lot of workloads. Also, the integrated VEGA 7 Graphics is slightly more capable than VEGA 6 in 4500U. if you need a very powerful ultrabook and planning to run a lot of CPU heavy application then 4700U.
So if anyone is wondering where HP cut the corners on this device, its the display. Bestbuy reviews confirm that and it appears that the display is washed out. No matter how good the other specs are, if the display is bad, you will regret the purchase for the entire life of the device. Ferrari engine with foggy windshield?....

Say no to 8GB folks! It's ridiculous. My system idles at 5GB, with a couple of tab + Skype and Teams, I'm already hitting 9-11GB. They should offer a free Linux USB installer plus instruction manuals if they're going to keep shipping mid range devices with 8GB memory!!

Then your system is having huge amount of background tasks running all the time which you're not aware of. The tasks you have described can be easily done without any issues in 8GB Ram. So, either you are are exaggerating stuffs or you don't know what are the background process running.
I do have laptops with both 8GB and 16GB Ram and for normal browsing with multiple tabs, Skype and even some other tasks open, the 8GB laptop never has any problem.

Ya idk what's up. Interestingly enough, the 13" model comes with 300 nits base (you can order one with 400) and even crazier 72 NTSC vs 45 NTSC on this model. Sometimes HP makes me scratch my head...

What annoys me is that they put this in dual channel 8gb meaning I'm going to have to pay extra for a full 16gb instead of just one 8gb stick. But ig it makes sense for the average consumer.

And if they even put a single 8GB or even a 16GB stick so that you can add another, tons of people will be complaining Ryzen and no dual channel and will flood the thread. I posted couple of HP ProBook 445 G7 and 455 G7 Deals which come with a single 16GB stick and one open slot and the main complain was why it is not dual channel.
