10 bucks isnt for the router, its not even for the modem - its for the Fiber to ethernet converter box that you cannot buy. Thats why even if you have your own compatible modem/router they can still charge you the $10.

what kind of tax percentage is it? 62 cents on a $50 isnt really tax. maybe you were talking about tax on your modem rental?
I don't really know why I would come across as an idiot, but I'm not.

They are charging $10/month for that little fiber/ethernet converter box that is attached to the wall? I though the charge was for the ATT gateway/router. So if you cancel service do they reclaim the converter box and rip it off your wall?

It's ATT...eventually you'll give them your left nut, an arm and your first born.

I found a cheaper deal on my internet provider. I used to pay $100/mo for AT&T 1Gbps fiber connection. Just came across this deal to save 50% AND get free HBOMax. I called them, and they upgraded my account!

Long long time ago, once, I signed up for a promotional AT&T DSL deal. Biggest mistake of my life. They would not honor the price and I'd call monthly and they'd promise to fix it. 4th month in, I finally lost it and demanded to talk to supervisors etc. They finally did fix it. Since I was paying full price, the extra credits helped pay for the rest of the term. At my month 13, I was still ticked enough and I asked for a cancellation (I had satisfied by 12 month contract and was actually one month over). The rep had the audacity to tell me that I was short 4 months. The same 4 months they took their sweet time to correct my billing issues. Thankfully, I had all the screenshots of when I signed up so I countered and said please provide me an email address to send my proofs of the date I signed up on to prove my 12 months.
Miraculously, they said I no longer owed them the $350 in termination fees they were looking to tack on.
Never again. I won't sign up for AT&T even if its free and I do not need to provide my bank account or cc number.

Update: I called the 800 listed on my bill (paper/PDF) and the CS said it's only for new customer. I asked CS to connect me with retention team. The retention team CS is very nice and put me on hold to change my existing 1Gb fiber plan pricing to $49.99 for 12 months. I am in Atlanta region with existing AT&T 1Gb fiber only service and was paying $80/month.

Try logging in on a PC to activate before trying to login on your phone. Worked for me.

As no one seemed to comment on it yet, the price is only good for the first 12 months then $69.99/month (still not too bad).
