10 bucks isnt for the router, its not even for the modem - its for the Fiber to ethernet converter box that you cannot buy. Thats why even if you have your own compatible modem/router they can still charge you the $10.

Average speedtest.net speeds are 350-375 up and down.
That's what I get checking speed with my phone on wifi because it's capped at 802.11n 5GHz speed. When I go through ethernet or directly check my connection speed on the modem, I get 900+ Mbps most of the times. Still plenty enough for most applications either way.

It's not a symmetric connection. 1GB down speeds but itll be a crappy upload speed unlike Google Fiber. Disappointing.
not true for me, I've had ATT Fiber for 2 years now and my speeds are 1000/1000. Speeds probably vary depending on location of course, but it can be 1000/1000 for sure. speedtest always shows over 900/900 for me, and my internet has not gone down once since I've had it nor have I noticed any speed issues during that time either. Been very happy with it after dealing with spectrum for years.

I'm paying a flat $70, including equipment. So I can save $10/month for year 1, then spend +$10/month beyond. Meh. More interested in the $39+equip offer it looks like I missed per my AT&T messages. BTW, successfully activated HBOMax last night

Tu. I did this when the HBOMAX offer came out (upgraded from 300 to 1000) and should have posted lol. I had unlimited with 300 and basic cable bundle I don't use. ATT is getting a little smarter but i had to previously bundle basic cable to get unlimited 300 which was best price point. Cable box has sat i. Closet for 6 months. Do OTA tv and cancelled cable tv and just have 1000 for $50. Nice deal.

I'd warn anyone to trust AT&T about "prevailing rates". I'm currently being charged $99 for Internet 1000. I noticed the website said that the prevailing rate is $69.99, so I talked to customer service. Over the course of about 7 hours over two days I was told conflicting information. I was told that the prices shown on the website were inaccurate and that because of COVID19 they were unable to get anyone to update their website with the correct prices. I was then told three different prices for the current base rate for Internet 1000, $90, $95, and $99. I was then told that there is actually no such thing as a base rate because it changes daily, or sometimes multiple times per day, and the base rate depends on many factors including: when you sign up, where you live, what package you select, ect. I asked to speak to someone higher up and they told me that I was speaking to the highest person in the customer service chain.

It is actually for the gateway/router. You don't pay for that fiber to ethernet thing they put in your utility box outside the house. I am old fiber customer and I don't pay for the gateway/router.

Called in after seeing the $39.99 offer on my notifications page but it showed a different price when I tried to activate it. Took about 15 minutes but they honored the $39.99 price.

This is why AT&T sucks. Tesla and Amazon needs to speed up with their satellites Internet project.

I currently have Comcast Xfinity Gigabit at $80 flat a month and don't have to pay extra fees for equipment as I have my own modem. However, it's a promo amount and it'll jump to $113 in 4 months.

AT&T deal is great, even though I can't waive that annoying equipment fee for owning own modem.

So I called Comcast Xfinity retention line and they gave me an offer $70/month for 24 months. With AT&T's fees and taxes, that's fairly close. But no headache for me to change over and I get to keep that rate for 24 months instead of 12. Yes, I lose out on the $200 Debit card from AT&T, but I think the long term solution is worth it.

Thanks for posting this. I was just chatting with an AT&T rep yesterday about this and they couldn't answer my question. My contract is almost up and they want to charge me $100/month, yet the prevailing rate for new customers is $70/month. It makes no sense.

Please beware! I had a similar deal a month ago. AT&T Router/modem equipment really sucks for multiple wifi devices. My smart TV would need to reconnect everyday, multiple times a day. I switched to using my own managed personally router and would not get the full speeds I paid for. It was a lose-lose situation and no one in AT&T support could help. I just ended up switching to Spectrum and pay a higher amount, but do not have any issues with my service/speeds/wifi. Also, AT&T customer support is herrible.

Just call retention and the lowest person in customer service will be able to get you a better deal when you actually look to cancel.

Switched to ATT 1G, as was already using att wireless. It's $39.99/mo with free HBO. Got used router from facebook market place for $15 to avoid monthly rental fee. It's been two weeks, now, not a bad experience so far.
