10 bucks isnt for the router, its not even for the modem - its for the Fiber to ethernet converter box that you cannot buy. Thats why even if you have your own compatible modem/router they can still charge you the $10.

I've been with AT&T for a few years now, and seen my bill increase from $70/month to $95/month over that time for the 1gb fiber plan. Tried calling a couple of times in the past as well as chatting to them online to try and get them to reduce the monthly payment when there were other promotional rates available but without any success.

Decided to give it another try today. Had to wait a bit to speak to customer service, but was eventually able to get through to someone. They were quite helpful and while they couldn't get it down to the $50/month promo rate advertised on the website, they did reduce it to $70/month instead, which is still a $300 saving over the next 12 months for a 30 minute phone call, so still a win.

Would definitely recommend giving them a call if you're paying more than that.
Chat support can't do anything. Only way to get the best deals is to call and ask to cancel. It's always been that way with most companies. You could have gotten the $50 if you asked to cancel... I just did it last week myself since my promo was up.

Current ATT customer (not under contract), paying 100 for ! Gb. Called, asked to speak to retention, and got the 50 through next year, then 70 after that. Which is odd, I didn't know 70 was the new baseline. But whatever. Saving 600 a year and then 360 after that.

Thanks... Nothing in PacNW, i.e. OR/WA.
There's always "the con artist previously known as comcast" (xfinity). They are worse than AT&T. AT&T may take your arm, leg, and a kidney, but comcast will take all of the above and your spleen.

I'd warn anyone to trust AT&T about "prevailing rates". I'm currently being charged $99 for Internet 1000. I noticed the website said that the prevailing rate is $69.99, so I talked to customer service. Over the course of about 7 hours over two days I was told conflicting information. I was told that the prices shown on the website were inaccurate and that because of COVID19 they were unable to get anyone to update their website with the correct prices. I was then told three different prices for the current base rate for Internet 1000, $90, $95, and $99. I was then told that there is actually no such thing as a base rate because it changes daily, or sometimes multiple times per day, and the base rate depends on many factors including: when you sign up, where you live, what package you select, ect. I asked to speak to someone higher up and they told me that I was speaking to the highest person in the customer service chain.
Don't waste time talking to CSRs. Ask to be transferred to the customer retention department right away.

Called in after seeing the $39.99 offer on my notifications page but it showed a different price when I tried to activate it. Took about 15 minutes but they honored the $39.99 price.
I've got this offer, too. Another $10 for equipment? 12 months, and then what? Thanks!

Had their service over a year and never got charged a rental fee.

plus tax and fees
Is this different depending on service area? Been with them over a year and haven't paid a dime in taxes or rental fees.

I currently have Comcast Xfinity Gigabit at $80 flat a month and don't have to pay extra fees for equipment as I have my own modem. However, it's a promo amount and it'll jump to $113 in 4 months.

AT&T deal is great, even though I can't waive that annoying equipment fee for owning own modem.

So I called Comcast Xfinity retention line and they gave me an offer $70/month for 24 months. With AT&T's fees and taxes, that's fairly close. But no headache for me to change over and I get to keep that rate for 24 months instead of 12. Yes, I lose out on the $200 Debit card from AT&T, but I think the long term solution is worth it.
You are wrong. The prices will keep coming down, so no reason to stick to long term contracts. Plus, if you also have AT&T wireless service, you might be able to save an extra $10 for combining the bills. Also, the AT&T 1Gbps plan has unlimited data, unlike Xfinity. I was in your boat back in January. Switched to AT&T and have no regrets.

This was my issue as I was using an edgerouterx and it was just not living up to the speed. I had to physically attach the machine to the modem/router that at&t provides in front of the ONT to get near gigabit. Additionally, having to put the box into pass through mode was not without issues.
I ended up pulling out my entire closet and redoing my entire network with pfsense and unifi. Then I discovered the pfatt plugin for pfsense (which recently was removed from github) which allows me to just use the modem/router for the 802.1x authentication and I have my pfsense box plugged directly into the ONT. Speed issues are a thing of the past. Big Grin
EdgerouterX can't handle the bandwidth with any IPS or IDS turned on. I wouldn't think over 300mbit with those services active
