10 bucks isnt for the router, its not even for the modem - its for the Fiber to ethernet converter box that you cannot buy. Thats why even if you have your own compatible modem/router they can still charge you the $10.

AT&T Fiber isn't available at your address. Good news, though! You still can get reliable, fast AT&T internet. Check out your available speed below.

Internet 25
Speeds up to 25 Mbps
$49.99/mo.

No thank you.

I called the 800 number on my bill and asked the IVR for loyalty department. I was on hold for maybe 2 minutes before a friendly agent picked up. When I asked if I could lower my internet pricing she said absolutely. There was a short pitch to bundle with AT&T TV, but I declined. Saved $50 month on my bill, since I was out of contract and it took maybe 6 minutes total. FWIW, I haven't had to pay any device charges in the past and don't see them on the confirmation email. We'll see on the next bill though. This was in Michigan, so YMMV. Good stuff OP!
This was easy... Called the number, said customer retention, got an agent in Dallas in 30sec, and just asked. Total call time 3min.
Location SC, customer for almost 3yrs.

Thanks just went from $90 to $50 /mo!!!

Thanks!
Was paying $90.
Now it's $49.99 a month for 12 months.
After 12 months it'll go to $69.99, so I'll still be savings.

Took 6 mins on the phone.

Online has $49.99 + $10 equipment fees = $59.99. How did you do it, since I was offered $59.99.

I've never paid any equipment fees. Didn't know AT&T had them. That must be something new that I'm grandfathered in. Not sure.

If you are currently on any promotion that is pricier than this promo you should call in and ask to get transfer to retention and have them adjust, the retention team is very good at retaining you
What if you are currently on a promo but only a few months into a 12 month contract? I tried to call and said they can't do anything since I'm still under contract under an existing promo, and would have to pay an ETF if cancelling

Thanks for this info. I was trying to figure this exact thing out since I have always purchased my equipment to avoid fees. Do you know why you can't buy this box?

AT&T for a moment in time had a no equipment fee than they re-added it recently. From time to time they have a promotion of no equipment fee, the last one was a couple of months ago.
