10 bucks isnt for the router, its not even for the modem - its for the Fiber to ethernet converter box that you cannot buy. Thats why even if you have your own compatible modem/router they can still charge you the $10.

Spectrum already asking FCC if could put data cap back after May 2021.

Am on month 12 of a one year $20 off internet promotion. I also have DirecTv and am in year two of contract. I have been paying $40 a month for 300mbps. They offered me the gig internet for $60 a month instead of $50 because I have already had a year of promotional pricing. But then they found a loyalty discount available to me at $60 off a month for a year which now makes the gig internet free for a year plus the free HBO max and no data caps. Not bad.

What's the maximum speed you are getting on a wired network?

I'm getting only an average of ~570mbps upload speed on a wired network in Dallas, TX
I used to have 300 Mbps plan before and I used to get full 300 Mbps on a wired network.

Please share your speeds.

At&t Loyalty Groups/REtention phone number is 866-446-4115. They can setup new customer and get the promos on existing accounts.

That's terrible, but I'll be surprised if the FCC cares, since under Ajit Pai they've basically given up on protecting consumers or trying to make broadband affordable. Even a lot of companies who were burdened by net neutrality were shocked when the FCC sided with them.

I whined and moaned, threatened to quit them twice a couple months apart, and asked to be bumped up to a supervisor and a retention specialist before I switched to Spectrum. Some people have gotten good enough deals to stick with them but they never offered me anything, and would not give me new user promos, so it made zero since for me to stick with AT&T.

I was surprised that they didn't even really try to keep me, especially considering what I was paying for "high speed" internet that doesn't even meet the definition of broadband. Worth a try though, and they sometimes have extra special deals for new people. The 18 Mbps max here is just too slow to even consider going back to, for me.

I don't know about your area, but they literally gave up finishing their national fiber network years ago. Some areas will still get it but they don't even hint about it ever being nationally available anymore. They're content not to be competitive in many towns now because their models say the infrastructure investment isn't worth it, even where they made promises and signed contracts for access and monopolies. And they get away with it, so there's no incentive to continue to roll out rural broadband and wire small towns.
