This should probably be the *new* sale price by now, not refurb--it has been on sale for $350 new before.
I've had one since August of last year (paid $400), and while the panel is spectacular, the software is pretty wonky. I wouldn't recommend using the built-in smart features--having some kind of streaming device solves a lot of the problems (built-in Netflix app would crash whenever playing Dolby Vision content, for example, but it works fine on my Fire Stick).
Sometimes the TV just stops responding to the remote and it needs to be straight-up unplugged and restarted.
All said, it's still one of the best values in TVs if picture quality is your top metric. But I don't think I would spend $299 for a refurb on a TV that is a little quirky to begin with and can be bought new for only $50 more. The fact that it's a WALMART refurb is particularly concerning, as these forums have been flooded with past examples of questionable practices for Walmart refurb TVs.
Given past experiences with walmart refurb tvs, I'd highly recommend steering clear of them
100% agree with this. Right before the lockdown I ordered a "refurb" that was delivered by Fedex with half the screen smashed. There was 0 box damage so I'm not really going to lay the blame on Fedex for that one.
Also went to return it in store and they gave me grief because it was ordered online ( I think this was a store issue because the phone CS was very confused).
Walmart has a 58 model for 300 it's ok if you don't want to be overly impressed. I'm going to go for the tcl 6 series for 150 more. The contrast on this tv is poor to say the least

Also the one I got was brand new not refurbished. If you look up Hinsene on slick you should find the thread I got it from
Good TV, but I highly recommend getting it from Costco instead. Worth the $70 for up to 3 more years of warranty, depending on your membership, and easy returns if you get a bad panel.

The contrast on this TV is excellent, what are you talking about?
Does Hisense commit to updating Android as frequently and with security patches etc?
Not at all. This TV runs android 8 and the last security patch is from summer of last year. I think there's only been one update at all since then, mainly to add Amazon prime video, and they used an outdated APK to do that.
