Was searching for some deals on chromebooks and founds this one.. def lukewarm but the specs are far better ( Intel Pentium Silver N5000, Intel UHD Graphics 605) when compared to traditional chromebooks ( N4000, graphics 500 etc.)

HP Chromebook 14a was a good product last year but after Lenovo flex5 and new Lenovo Chromebook duet it lost it's place. It's not one of the best Chromebook alternatives anymore. Still has a relatively good specs but a Chromebook (has never been) is not a real alternative to a regular laptop. If user can spend $500 (+-100) a refurbished freedos or windows installed alternative with at least 8th gen i5 + 8gb RAM + 256gb SSD can give much better performance whether it uses Linux or windows. Since (like Walmart or bestbuy) third parties are giving their customers a generous refund options, potential buyers can try and see how it works in real life for a short period of time. If the device is for someone -12 or +60 years old, then it can work ok cos Chromebooks generally works much reliable than other alternatives. If something goes wrong, restoring is much easier and faster.

While Chromebook is not a pc replacement it has its use if you know what you are getting it for. I have the Chromebook duet and absolutely love it. I can use it as a tablet but when i need something a bit serious i can attach the keyboard and type away. Having 10 + hours of battery life also helps. No windows laptop does that, MacBooks have good battery life but costs 5-6 times that of a Chromebook and still not that portable unless you find a used 11 inch air in good condition!

Yes, Chromebook duet is an exception right now. It is a very capable tablet and comes with free keyboard and back cover for $250-$300. Has a good screen, ok CPU and good built quality with shitty speakers. It was a good step to right direction. Good for light tasks and media consumption. But only for people who already have a desktop and/or regular laptop can utilize it. If the device you are buying will be your only device in your life, my first advice (i5+8gb+256gb) applies.

Windows has its own place for use, and so does Chromebook.
Chromebook has play store, which combined with touch input offers an experience that no windows device can give you.
Chromebook doesn't slow down over the years.
If all you need is check emails, browse internet and occasionally play a lightweight game, then Chromebook will get the job done.

Thinking about getting a Chromebook for my 6 and 7 year old for home schooling. This looks good, but doesn't seem to have touch input, which seems like a major selling point for the Chromebook and younger kids.

So maybe this Chromebook isn't the best fit? What do you think?

I just ordered this. Lenova 13" Flex 5. It's a new release. Only other place I found that had it was B&H Photo, available in July. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B086383...1EbVGBD616

Why do high end chromebooks still use crappy eMMC as their storage? Low-end SSD's cost nothing nowadays and are absolutely superior. Complete nonsense.

I agree. Children love touch input because it's so intuitive. Actually for children who don't know how to type yet, a tablet will be far better, easier and possibly cheaper than a Chromebook.

I can't get their Kindles (modified with the Google Play store) to work for everything they need to do for their school. They have to borrow our laptops for a few things such as video conferencing and SplashLearn.

Yeah, I'd go for a touch screen Chromer for kids. I think lots of Playstore games need a touch screen. I'm to lazy to use a touchscreen myself because that would require arm movementSmilieSmilie. Touchpads on Chromebooks do everything these days. I've got 3 Chromers with touch screens and have never used the feature.

I have an "Acer Chromebook 14 for Work" with this resolution. I think the resolution is ... OK. The quality or the screen and viewing angles are the real question here. I am growing tired of the poor viewing angles on my Acer which has a TN screen.

If available I suggest you look at the screen in person.

Actually, this is a powerful machine because of its CPU (N5000≈i5 6200u). It can easily be turned into a Linux terminal to work remotely on SSH/HPC clusters when you have to WFH.
