Not sure if this is a great deal or not, but it is the lowest I could see it at. Right now, you can get the camera+lens kit at $2200 from Nikon and few other sites but this one comes with a couple of useful accessories and is $100 lower

Nice price on a good camera. Latest FW 3.0 really improves AF tracking.

Z7 prices have been holding steady, even for used.

I've never realized the importance of ergonomics until I used my Fujis. I cannot even hold those. My G9 fits like a glove. I've tried this camera and it's also really nice in the hand. Just dont think I can invest in another system right now.

Anyone know of a good starter cam? My daughter wants to get into photography, but I don't want to spend a fortune until I know the hobby will stick.

These are good starter cameras:

Which one you pick depends on what features appeal more to to your daughter and how the camera "feels" in her hands. The latter consideration is the most important of all. So take her to a local electronics shop, if you can do this safely, and let her try out an few of them.

I guess if you don't like Nikon's, Sony's will make you cringe. ;-)

It's a common question on the camera forums, but the answers are easy: is she high school or college? Most high schools don't offer basic photography, but most jr college's do. Many instructors start them out with film and if that's the case, she will need a film camera which are plentiful and inexpensive. Look for a good condition used Pentax ME Super, Pentax K1000, Canon AE-1, Minolta X-700, research others. If digital, anything from a used/mfg refurbished Nikon D90, D300S, D7000, D5300/5600, even a D3400/3500 are great choices. On the Canon side: T5i, T6, T6i, T7, or if spending more a 80D. Image quality between these mentioned will be close to each other. The reason I like Nikon/Canon is lenses are cheap, plentiful. and perform very well. You should be under $200-$300. on the film cameras with a lens and right at or under $500. on digital. Stick with a DSLR camera (digital) with their bigger sensors and avoid the M4/3 or 1" sensor cameras as lenses are substantially more expensive. Good luck.

The Canon Rebel versions are good, make sure you get the "i" versions not the non "i" versions. The Sony mirrorless a6000 and any of the a6xxx cameras are nice too. If you go for Canon go to their refurbished site and you will get basically new cameras and lenses put in different boxes and get the full one year warranty, try to catch it when they do the 10% off sales which make it an even better buy, they have some good one or two lenses package combo deals on there also.
