Various carriers are having promos that require that you port in an existing number from another service to qualify. Verizon, for one, has an extremely lucrative BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) promo where you get a $250 GC for a new line with a port in. But what if you want a completely new line, but still want to qualify for the promos that require you to port in a number from another service?
There are tricks where you can order a sim card (even digital delivery on ebay) and then sign up for a $10 tmobile pay as you go plan and then port to verizon from there, but i found a faster , easier, and cheaper method. JUST BUY A NUMBER TO PORT OUT FROM EBAY! There are multiple sellers that will send you a number, account number, and account pin to use for this purpose exactly. The cheapest, reliable-looking seller charges $4.75 for an AT&T number, account number and pin to use for porting purposes. Small additional savings via his listing for $5 that has a "Make Offer" option. I tested and he auto-rejected offers @ $4, pending his manual answer @ $4.25 and auto accepted @ $4.50.
Others can test amounts between $4.26-$4.49 to see exactly what offers he will auto accept. Can also test offers between $4.01 and $4.24 to see what offers the seller is willing to manually approve.

If he stops auto-accepting offers, there is also his listing without "Make Offer" for $4.75:

OP EDIT: I WAS TOLD THAT THIS POST IS NOT IN COMPLIANCE WITH RULES TO POST EBAY DEALS. THIS POST IS NOT REALLY ABOUT A SPECIFIC EBAY LISTING, BUT MORE TO SHARE THE IDEA AND HOW TO MAXIMIZE CURRENT VZW AND SAMSUNG PROMOS. ADMIN'S, IF THIS MUST BE REMOVED, PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW I CAN SHARE THIS INFO WITHIN THE RULES OF SD
For more back story of why I needed this and a great deal on some phones too, keep reading:
I was looking to sign up for a new Verizon account with four lines using the Nurses discount and maybe get a few new phones at the same time. I needed the ebay port in number for line #4 that is for someone that didnt previously have a number, so this let me get the BYOD $250 promo for the fourth line as well.
When it came time to look at phone options, I saw a thread on SD about a deal for the s20 UW (i ended up going for the s10 instead) and someone said to check samsung with edu and referral as it could be cheaper. I found the phone for basically the same price as from Verizon on Samsung.com and bought it outright (there is also 3 year 0% financing available, but I wanted to get double manufacturers warranty buy paying for it on my AMEX) with their tradein promo. They even give decent values for phones with cracked screens if you do the order via the samsung shop app.
My samsung account is verified as edu (available on ebay if you dont have one) for extra (i think) 5% off and I used a referral code from a friend (these can be found online) for an extra $25 off. there was a lucrative 10% samsung cashback at that time (not any more) so look around. (BTW, I wanted to see if Rktn samsung CB would post even if I used a referral coupon, and it did)
Then I wanted to be super frugal and found a cashback site offering $115 per new line of service for new accounts. I added four new lines on a new vzw account in one order and there is $460 cashback pending that will be ready for cashout in 2 months.
Combine this with 4 x $250 gift cards from Verizon for porting in lines and BYOD, and this was a super slickdeal!

I can't say. I'm no mod, but most people just comment in other post when it makes since to bring up.
