I think the way to get cashback site to work is first buy Dell.com gift card, Amex works with gift cards.

Then use cashback site to buy laptop or other goods using the giftcard.

Double dipping should work.

Does anyone know from actual experience if cashback sites will still work when using this offer? A lot of CB sites usually say can't be combined with other discounts and since dell would be dishing out the cash back, they'd see that $120 was given back as well.

I THINK it still works on this type of deal, but not 100% sure.

Also, people wanting pcs and monitors probably should have waited until a round july 4th and most likely there will be lower prices. I can't decide whether to wait myself because I need one more samsung ssd and they always go back up to $220 or $230 for 1tb and $450 for 2tb after a while.

I think the offer explicitly says you don't get the $120 cash back if buying e-gift cards. Not sure how AMEX can differentiate what was bought though to make sure it wasn't a gift card. Feels a bit risky to try

Usually cash back sites say they don't work if you use a gift card. people will say on here they do, but I have seen myself that I get an email saying I earned cash back, then mysteriously it disappears a few days later because I sued gift cards to make the purchase.

I think it's more on dell's end, although maybe not.... because many times I get an email saying I earned cash back immediately after purchase before dell would have had time to confirm to amex what was bought, so who knows. I just know that on MOST cash back sites they give you cash back based on the merchant first paying THEM commission.

I am assuming I will get one of those too, as I usually do. Unless it was in the dell magazine I threw away a few days ago... I looked on the front and back of it and opened it skimming through and never saw a coupon so threw it away. And same thing as you are implying.... doesn't usually even tell an expiration date on them when I do get them.

I assume they are like mailed ones where they don't work on much of anything other than dell products? I've tried mailed ones before on ssds, software, etc... with them not working. Only thing I'd even think about by dell itself is a monitor and even then a review says a benq monitor blows away the dell one that was recently on sale for $529.
Do you have any reference of link for the BenQ ultrawide ?

My experience is that Lenovo gear is better than Dell overall.
Just the way it is. Maybe inheriting the ThinkPad line helped them. I don't know.
SquareTrade had a survey of hardware reliability that supports my anecdotal experience.
I have many, many refurbs of the same age, and all of the Lenovos outlast the Dells. They also tend to not have as many weird issues. I think almost all of the Dells I've had, had some kind of power related issue or driver problem. You'd think they snuck in faulty drivers and driver updates for forced obsolescence.

I'm using a Dell XPS 13 myself. Its form factor and hardware is sexy and all, and more than gives even Macbooks a run for the money on paper, but I've sent it in for repairs 2 times, and it still has a permanent bios bug causing sleep mode to cause the laptop to no longer turn on and prevents bios upgrade which almost bricked the laptop. Apparently it requires (another) motherboard replacement to fix.
I just have to live with forcefully disabling sleep and using hibernate only.

tl;dr Dell XPS 13; it's still sexy, but got serious issues. Their top line laptop with high reviews has got serious problems, and their commodity gear doesn't last.

Out of all the Lenovos only 1 failure due to hdd failure, but a graveyard of Dell laptops. Granted I do have Dell desktops that have been running for something like 10 years.

If I were to get more gear or be asked for recommendation, I would not recommend Dell again. Their top line gear has serious bugs that should never have passed QC and shows serious negligence by their bios software maintainers and support. Their cheaper gear is just unreliable.
I've got refurb Lenovos in usage that have been smashed to the point that they no longer have cases, and they're still running reliably, whereas I have a graveyard of Dell laptops that failed after something like less than 1-2 years for various reasons.
Squaretrade is hardly a reliable source since their main purpose in life is to find ways not to honor the warranty lol. Your experience is anecdotal and on on my side of that coin personally, I would want no part of Chinese made anything if it can be avoided.

As to Dell, they have issues as well, but again in my experience it is with their laptops, not their desktops. Their biggest problem imo is they use crappy Seagate drives. You pretty much are going to replace that with an SSD though so it is what it is.

Correct, based on my 1 experience with another offer and reading way too much on this forum...

AMEX offers typically state they do not allow gift cards including this one, but it has worked in the past. AMEX cares about the final valued charged and how it shows in your statement (eg so tax is included). If you ask them, they'll say final value is what's counted but generally tax and such shouldn't be technically.

..sorry seems I replied to the wrong post

Don't get me wrong. If you've bought crap from a Chinese company and then got left with no support, me and I'm sure plenty of others would like to know so we can avoid them. But.

I've got nothing bad to say about ST. I've had around 10 faulty printers fully refunded by SquareTrade.
And that logic doesn't make sense. Why would they favor Lenovo over Dell because they "don't want to honor your warranty"?
They may skew failure rates higher to make themselvse more important. But they'd just round up the numbers for everyone.

Every time I see this anti-China thing on here, it is asinine. If you want to be pro-America buy made at home products or whatever, fine. But don't pretend like your advice about American vs Chinese products makes any more sense than blind FUD. Try buying a Shark robot vacuum and for the same price as one of the Chinese knock-offs. You'll wonder why you ever purchased anything from Shark. There's plenty of other products that are actually just knock-offs of Chinese products repackaged with a higher price tag. Sometimes it's an improvement. A lot of the time it's just repackaged overpriced garbage.

There's some really ingenious doodads from those tiny manufacturers over in China. Take a look at AliExpress some time, or watch a few videos from people trying some of the stuff out. Yes of course there's lots of garbage there too. You get what you pay for, and you find the same amount of garbage on eBay from local sellers.

Provide some evidence or helpful information other than "CHINA BAD". Like "this China seller produces garbage that dies in less than a year", or "this Chinese company's support sucks because it has to go overseas". But this stuff I see on here borders on straight up bigotry.

TL;DR Anecdotal evidence is better than no evidence. Especially because I have a large quantity of it. Even withstanding I actually referenced real numbers from an outer party whose interests clearly don't conflict.

I don't know if the ones I was looking at were ultrawide, but probably not. Also, as far as the whole blowing it away thing, I am basing that on an amazon user's review, so i should take that part with a grain of salt. lol. It does seem that some of the benq ones are better, though. My problem is the benq I want doesn't say it has freesync and some people claim it does and some claim it doesn't, so I assume it doesn't.

It does seem they're based on final value charged, as so many amex offers have behaved that way. BUT it's still risky, since the terms say it doesn't apply to gift cards. If for some reason they do have a way to stop it, then you're stuck with a pricey gift card and no bonus.

If someone here is going to buy something for $1200+ they should buy $600 in gcs to test it and then if it doesn't work they can still do the other $600 normally.

Mine was for 12,000 points instead of $120.
