FYI...

I spoke to an AMEX rep ("Kate") who confirmed that the $599 spend does not need to be in one transaction to count. The $599 can be spent over multiple transactions during the period leading up to the expiration date.

Just a tidbit in case people are looking to place multiple transactions but under the $599 threshold.
it's right in the very first sentence of the offer, you really didn't need to bother the amex people by calling just to confirm what 99% of the people here already know. did you read the terms "Get a one time 120 statement credit by usimg your enrolled card to spend a minimum of 599 in one or more transactions online at dell.com by 7/31/2020" and then you still called them?

$599 is alot of money, nobody expects you to spend that amount in one transaction. amex made that change a long time ago (in response to several issues) and today, you generally only have the one transaction rules when the minimum spend is around $25 or less.

just ask your questions here, many of us (not just me) know how this works; probably better than the amex reps (who often have to read you the official rules) but we can give you to unofficial rules, too. despite a few folks who are new to the program and want to make the amex offer seem like some sort of crapshoot, the program is solid and reliable even if a few merchants try to make it difficult. of course we cannot give you personal account details which you'll need to call amex for that but about the program itself and the process, ask in this thread or the other dozen amex offer threads.

The facts in there are that they usually give the credit right off based on the charge amount, not including tax.
wrong again, slick. just stop it, please. amex offer is based on the amount that is charged to your card. if the threshold to trigger the offer is $600 and the charge amount not including tax is $575 and the charge amount including tax is $625 then you will trigger the offer 99% of the time.

It is not a fact that Amex is solely giving the credit. It's probably a deal with Dell, where they do some sort of split. That is what cash back sites do.... they get commission and give big bonuses and it could be that the merchants agreed to pay extra commission on those deals where people use the amex deals.
wrong again, pal. as far as the customer is concerned, 100% of the statement credit comes from American Express. the customer does not care who is funding the promotion or what terms the merchant has with the amex. the fact is a merchant cannot give you a statement credit and with this promotion, a statement credit is the ONLY reward. please stop talking about deals and splits and bonuses and commission which is totally irrelevant to the customer when it comes to executing an amex offer.

Also, nobody knows if they will take the money back only when returning an item... just because that's the only cases people have mentioned on here doesn't mean it can't happen in other cases. Why else would they put in terms you can't buy GCs? Just for no reason?
...because I know. if you don't know, say so and speak for yourself. but I know. your credit is reverse when you return you purchase or cancel your transaction and the original charge to your card is decreased or eliminated. that's about it. unless you call them and admit that you made an invalid purchase (yes some people have foolishly done that) the computers are going to do their thing. there have been reviews where credits have been missed and the amex folks have made the corrections but reviewing valid transactions but stop being disingenuous by insinuating that audits are the normal and people are losing their credit. it's not happening, pal.

amex puts "no gift cards" in the terms because in general, most merchants who sells gcs do so thru a third party which will not trigger the offer. so amex gives the customers a heads up that you face this hurdle and if you call to say you purchased an egc from bestbuy.com and you didn't get the credit, they can refer you to the terms rightly so. only a fool would call amex and inquire about a physical gift card they purchased from Best Buy and ask how they got the credit and are they allowed to keep it when the terms say otherwise. people have done it and frankly, that sounds like you. even after everyone here has told you it works, you still insist. in your next post, you'll start talking about the level of data exchanged between amex and the merchant post-transaction and all that tired nonsense that have been discussed ad nauseam. then you claim how extensive the amex audit process goes and that credits are being reversed in bulk but because the internet hasn't heard about them (which we obviously would know about it) then how do I know?

"no gcs" is standard language. it's also probably in the promo agreement with the merchant. it's a loophole that is currently open and have been open for years if not a decade now. I have made $ thousands and not a penny has been reversed. it's not just me and I won't be the last. you can either work with this or you can bow out but please stop trying to discourage others by labeling the behavior as risky. when done correctly, today the risk is very low.

I ordered a prepackaged (no modifications) Dell desktop to get the Amex $120 credit. However it doesn't show my delivery date until July 16th. Is Dell still have problems because of the pandemic or will the date be moved up later? Any experience lately?

The key difference is that the U is a slightly newer variant within the same Gen 10 family. The U can be offered with up to 6 cores and slightly higher freqs. The graphics engines are slightly different so choose carefully..

See this link, scroll down a bit and you can see the Intel decoder for the CPU sku:

ahhh...thx.

U is slighter better CPU power but using older tech (14nm).
G has better graphics and using newer 10nm die size.

surprised intel didnt leave the U as 9th gen (14nm die size) instead of labeling it as 10th gen?

Just FYI...you don't have to spend 599 or more with one purchase. Amex adds up all your purchases to see if you meet the minimum requirement by the offer's expiration date.

The motto should alway try anyway and treat it as a "maybe".
I usually do, but just saying it can affect whether I want to buy an item at all because of comparing prices vs. other stores.

I still have no idea if I will be able to figure a way to use this deal and not just be wasting extra money since the only thing I KNEW I wanted was a 1tb evo plus. If the 2tb were $399 I would maybe do that and then find something else to meet the requirement.

So I guess I will have to sit around for a month deciding...

Worth noting, but still you'd need to be pretty sure you will eventually spend it. I have the card that gives tax back at b&h, so if I buy a lower than $599 item and then never buy anything else to reach the threshold I will be out more money than buying from b@h.

And nobody ever said it had to be $599 without tax. lol. I already knew that literally years ago.

if hose 10% coupons were not so limited this would be an extra good deal then because of getting original tax also wiped out.

Yea. Unless you have that patience to wait for other people experience, then you'll have to try and see. The cashback registered but we won't really know for at least 3 months after that whether Dell will pay or cancel.
