What's required to get one of these set up? Do you just drop it on the ground or do you need a special base like concrete?

Typically some type of level base. Concrete, Treated Wood, Gravel/Stone base.

How do these compare to the Lifetime sheds? are these steel-reinforced.. there seems to be hardly any reviews of this. There are some reviews of the 759 model but nothing to say it's the same.

Just scrolling through the pictures, it gives a cut-in look of the material it's built with. It just looks like plastic without any reinforcement.

It comes with a plastic floor, but it has to be sitting on a level plywood or concrete base (pavers or blocks would work). Gravel.... maybe, but it's possible that it could become unlevel over time depending on how you use the shed. The problem with gravel is it's difficult to raise the level of the floor up high enough to prevent running water from flowing across the inside of the shed. There is no seal between the plastic floor boards and walls. Ask me how I know.

So you really need to pour a concrete foundation to set this sheds floor on,in order to keep the inside of the shed dry and stable

I put up a similar shed a month ago. I built a simple rectangle base with pressure treated 2x4s and 3/8" exterior-rated plywood and placed that on 4x16x8" cinder block caps as short pillars so the wood doesn't sit directly on the ground. It also made leveling it easier. It took less than 2 hours by myself using a rented framing nailer to build the frame, place it on the blocks, level it, then nail the plywood onto the frame.

Get a bunch of those black plastic pallets...build it on that..leveling it on that might be a pain but should last a while

even if you have no carpentry experience, for 999, can you buy 2x4 lumber and plywood and build your own 12'x'12' crapshack with shiplap siding and have money left over

Ehh... I don't think so. Exterior materials and finishes alone would be close to this cost. I guess you could buy cheap plywood and corrugated steel and end up with a rotting pile of crap, if you don't care about having decent things.

If you don't do good prep work for foundation, you'll regret it for a long time.
Properly constructed concrete slab is absolutely the best no matter where you are. But depending on your situation, pressure treated wood or simple concrete blocks for a base might be okay. Rare would be the situation where you could just spread some gravel on the ground, much less just plop this (or any other shed) right on some lawn or patch of dirt.

I got a similar Keeter shed a couple years back through Sam's. I've be happy with it so far. Shed was easy to install and although it's not the sturdiest thing in the world, it's worked fine for storing my riding lawn mower. The model in the thread seems nicer than the one I got. Mine was $600 for a 7x11, but the roof and overall look of this shed are better than mine.
