I have the older model of the Nitro 5 (i5-8300+1050ti). They are good gaming laptops and easily expandable. But you people might be missing out on the fact that this thing is a TANK and weighs a ton. Also the touchpad is just horrible, you will need to use a mouse. And the fans are LOUD AF when gaming.
I like the screen on mine, 1080p, plenty bright. With a GTX 1650 you will be playing 1080p games on medium depending on the game. Mine has a 1050ti and I played BF1 @ 1080p medium no problem. Also some fallout 4, Borderlands 3 (1080p mix of medium/low), and Outer worlds (medium). Be warned though, when the game time starts, the fans kick into hyperdrive. It is really loud. I wear earphones so I don't care, but those sitting nearby might make a comment.
The bottom has removable panels for the ram and 2.5" hdd. No need to take the whole back panel off like on most laptops. Upgrading is easy. My suggestion is to search ebay for the exact make/model of dimm that is already in there on ebay. I scored another 8gb sodimm for 25 shipped. Lots of people upgrade and sell the remaining dimm. It comes with a m.2 drive (mine was 256gb, this one looks to have 512gb) but you can stick in a 2.5" SSD easily. I bought a separate 500gb just for games (I now realize I should have bought the 1tb one)
*EDIT - being reported this newer model does not have the bottom upgrade access panels and might need to remove the whole bottom. Still shouldn't be a huge problem if you're handy with a screwdriver.
The keyboard is "ok" and backlit but only in red. The right side of keyboard has a strange layout because of the 10 key numpad. Delete, backspace, etc etc are all in wierd places. My wife hates it and uses an external logitech mouse and keyboard.
Forget gaming on battery, if it works at all you might get 20-30 mins. So you will be hauling around the biggest AC adapter I have ever seen for a laptop. Easily 3 times the size my work Dell laptop AC adapter.
This is a gaming system, not a travel laptop. You will not be busting this out on a plane/train or automobile. It is huge. I can *barely* get this thing into my laptop backpack with the AC adapter. All together it's got to be near 7 pounds. I just weighed mine and it's almost 6 pounds, just the laptop. *edit - just weighed the adapter and it is a pound. 7 pounds not counting external mice/keyboard/cords etc. Once I get all that jammed in my backpack it hits 10.
Do not buy this for your kids for school, it is super duper overkill. High school kids might appreciate the gaming though. College kids will not want to haul this beast to classes.
The touchpad. OMG it is so bad. The entire pad "clicks" and moves as one piece, no buttons. So if want to right click on something, the entire thing clicks and moves. We use external logitech mouse + keyboard 99% of time at home (and I never travel without a mouse).
It has 1 full size hdmi for output, and we hook up to TVs and such all the time when we reach our destination. It will output 4k desktop over hdmi but you won't be playing 4k games unless you want a slideshow. Stick to 1080p. It does have a USB-C port on it, but I do not thing it will output video natively. You could buy one of those USB-C to hdmi docking station things ($50+) if you need multiple screens for office work I guess. NO you cannot charge from USB-C.
So yeah I'm bagging on it a bit, but for $500 it's a great gaming "laptop" with a few compromises. I'm fairly happy with it, since real gaming laptops cost $1500.
If anyone has questions just let me know and I will try to answer. I actually bought mine refurb from the Acer store on ebay. No problems.
