That is fraud. Best case is it's extremely unethical and will only cause HD to get even more strict and make it more difficult for regular people to return stuff. Please don't try this.
Essentially, yes. The last few times the battery starter kit has been the 3.0ah HP batteries vs these regular 4.0ah batteries. But, these 4.0ah are at least the higher end p197 batteries vs the older p108. Better internals/cells.
Yes, you can do this with just a circular saw and a drill. Few tips:
- Make sure you pre-drill your holes or else your wood will split when you put in your screws
- Cedar pickets are affordable and they're naturally good for outdoor applications
Not as many free tools because you guys have been abusing the hell out of it by returning the batteries and keeping the tools.
You do know what website you're on right...?
I personally have taken advantage of the ability to return the batteries, but I haven't built an entire workshop that way.
Frankly I think HD overshot on the initial offering of this with the launch of the 3.0Ah batteries 2 years ago. They had tools like the large shop vacs, pole saw... The deal has gotten less valuable since. Yet it keeps coming back with the pro-rated format, even if the tool list is less impressive. They could shut us down if it was such a problem or do away with the pro-rated refunds.
The cheap chargers are actually handy for old batteries that the "intelligent" chargers reject.
For real. I've got 2 chargers and the bigger, fancier looking one won't charge an older refurb 4ah lithium battery. The smaller, cheaper charger has no problem with it.

Plus one on the cedar pickets. Just built two raised beds with them. Worked very nicely & cheapest option for me.
PSA: You CAN cancel just the batteries. My wife just ordered me a tool + batteries for father's day, had the batteries shipped to home, tool for pickup, but somehow HD picked up the wrong address shipping address from paypal. In trying to correct that found that they make it look like you have to cancel the entire order since there is just one big "cancel" button, but when you click that, it gives the option to cancel the batteries. Oh well, I kinda wanted the batteries, guess I'll have just buy another tool now.
It shows the hedge trimmer as part of the deal in multiple places but it is not listed or selectable from the site.
I noted that too. Even on the page where they are already bundled, they are showing full price for the trimmer and the battery combo. Everything else on the page is $99.99. Hopefully this gets updated soon b/c I have some overgrown shrubs that have been waiting for this deal.

To all the Ryobi experts. I want to get into the Ryobi family. Would this be a good way to get in? Are there better deals I should wait on? Say a bundle for example
Here is a bundle with 6 tools and 2 batteries for $199
