This laptop works for my needs and it seems like a good deal to me. Final price paid is $487.49 without tax. Main draw for me is the low price now (while I am a bit broke) and the ability to upgrade for just a bit more later (if I wanted to). Build quality for 7000 series is typically solid. The screen is quite bright at 300 nits (typical, other manufacturer spec max) and decent color (72% NTSC)

Dell Inspiron 7591
Core i5-9300H (4C 8T 8MD L3 cache, 45W TDP)
UHD 630 integrated graphics
FHD 1920x1080 anti-glare IPS panel, 300 nits typical, 72% NTSC, 160deg viewing angle (horizontal and vertical)
8GBx1 DDR4 2666MHz (not soldered, has another free slot)
256GB SSD (NVMe 3x4)
Has an extra NVMe slot (for Intel Optane per Dell's manual)
Has an extra 2.5" HDD bracket (supports up to 2TB according to manual)
Backlit keyboard with numpad
802ac 2x2
56Whr battery
Aluminum body
Fingerprint reader (integrated into power button)
3 USB3.1 Gen1 ports
Thunderbolt 3 Type-C
HDMI 2.0
4.12lbs

Price calculation:
$607.49 after 10% off from email sign-up (before tax)
-$120 off AMEX offer (YMMV)
Final price = $487.49 before tax. Shipping is free.

I think it depends on the use case, what you value most, and the exact Lenovo laptop you are comparing. I personally think this is a better deal than most Lenovo deals I see these days. Here are a few points.
1) Most Lenovo these days have soldered RAM and no way to upgrade. This has 2 upgradeable slots.
2) The screen on this is better than most Lenovo's laptop I have seen. Most Lenovo's in this price range typically have 250 nits screen (max) while this is 300 nits (typical).
2.1) Most Lenovo's in this price range has TN screens.
2.2) Color representation is also better than most in this price range (72% NTSC vs typical 45% NTSC)
3) Build quality is solid on this laptop based on most reviews I have seen.

Good deal op and very nice post.
Looks like slickdeals did a paid review here:https://slickdeals.net/article/buying-guide/dell-inspiron-15-7000-7591-laptop-review/

So take that with a grain of salt...

This definitely seems like an excellent deal OP. Good screen, aluminum body, upgradeable RAM, thunderbolt, good processor (not Ryzen 4000, but still).

I agree, looks like a solid work station. Obviously not for gaming if anyone is wondering.

OP just a heads up most people don't include sales tax in their stated price (as not all areas have sales tax).

Where does it say IPS? I see WVA but nowhere on the specs page that indicates IPS or am I missing something?

It technically doesn't explicitly state IPS. Dell uses WVA = wide view angle. AFAIK, most laptops these days either uses a TN or an IPS screen. The wide view angle (+/- 80deg for horizontal and vertical according to Dell's spec sheet) is definitely not TN technology, which then leads me to conclude it's IPS. The paid review by SlickDeals that panini posted above also back that up.

Also, just as a backup, I checked out the viewing angle specs on some cheap Dell laptop with TN screens. It's typically around +10/-30 deg for vertial and +40/-40 for horizontal.

Appreciate the info. Yeah it sounds like a solid middle ground. Not quite IPS but definitely better than a TN panel. Thanks.
