Previously had a pair of Asus Zenwifi Pro ET12 Mesh system which worked awesome. The mesh system worked super good once set up. I connected them via wired backhaul. And the WiFi had phenomenal coverage throughout my 5 bedroom 2700 sq ft 2 story house.
I currently have ATT 2gb/s internet, which beat the snot off my previous Xfinity 1gb line. Not only in speed, but reliability. Xfinity always seems to be doing some sort of maintenance somewhere. ATT internet guys were very professional and my internet never had a hiccup.
So why buy this router?
Race.com recently blasted through the neighborhood installing their fiber network. And for the price of ATT's 2gb service, Race was offering 10gb service. So I signed up. It's not installed yet, but thought I would start getting my house prepared for it.
I first tried adding the BE96U as a node. The LAN ports worked, but the WiFi on the BE96U was disabled and I couldn't "enable" it. The ET12's still worked great. So then I decided to make the BE96U the main router. In order to do this, you have to reset the whole system and start from scratch.
I updated the to the latest firmware and performed a hard system reset. This is a must! Per online/Reddit/Dong recommendations I used the Asus Router login via browser vs the mobile app to set up my AiMesh system. BE96U as main router and the ET12's as nodes via wired backhaul.
Took a few trial and errors to maximize my WiFi setup. Because I'm mixing WiFi 7 capable hardware (BE96U) to WiFi 6e hardware (ET12's) I ended up disabling WiFi 7 AND MLO. I also disabled 320mhz band and just used 160 for the 6ghz band and up to 80mhz for the 5gb band. Once I did that, my WiFi was screaming and coverage was awesome.
I'm going to buy another refurbished BE96U and setup a true WiFi 7 AiMesh system with the 2 BE96Us and sell the ET12's.
To be clear, I have nothing but rave reviews for the ET12's. My WiFi and LAN with them were awesome. Great coverage and great speeds throughout my house. I shouldn't even upgrade, but I'm a sucker for new technology. That and the ET12's only had a couple 2.5gb ports. If they had 2 10gb ports, I would still upgrade to a WiFi 7 ready system.
The TP-Link deals a few days ago were tempting… but I'm an ASUS router loyalist.
