I'm impressed that coating on coated pan lasted 5 years. What model did you buy

I usually but cheap brand coating non stick pan and replace when it starts sticking, in average, it takes about 1 to 2 year.
It's a saute pain which is no longer listed on their website, not sure of the model. I cook about three times per week and use only wood or plastic utensils. Maybe I've just had excellent luck but I've only had the nonstick come off 1/5 Allclad pans and 0/3 Cephalon pans over about 6 years.

Ugh, I caved and bought one. Got this one, I feel like its a good versatile pan: https://homeandcooksales.com/inde...ality.html

$100 vs $250 on Amazon - deal is just too good and I'm sure it will last quite literally my whole life.

Go with D3/triply, unless you have a particular affinity for copper core. America's Test Kitchen and others say D5 doesn't really cook better. Start with the 12 in skillet w/ lid (you can get a cheap one on amazon if needed), then the 8qt stockpot. Those 2 will cover you in 90% of cases, so the sets really aren't worth it. I honestly can't see the value in spending $$ on a small saucepan because you're not really searing in them and there isn't much risk of warping the small bottom.
I'd also suggest a 4qt sautepan

So I actually just finished trying to make a warranty claim for an Allclad pan. Had a set of pots/pans for about 5 years and over the past few months the non-stick coating started wearing off one of them.

Emailed Allclad and sent pics, and was told that the non-stick coating wears off this way from normal use, and it's not covered under warranty. I asked if they have a option for repair/refurbishment, and this was their answer:

"Unfortunately we do not resurface or repair our cookware. We are hosting a online sale if you are interested in replacing the pan. The link is below..."

I have the tendency to pay a significant premium for items that advertise with a "lifetime warranty," but I would advise avoiding Allclad unless you're buying from Costco.
The lifetime warranty is misleading. It isn't your lifetime but the lifetime of the product. I don't think I've seen a company list the definition of how many years that really means.

Congrats. That is a good deal. I lucked out...the two items I was going to get, the 6 Qt essential and 8 Qt stockpot, sold out while I was contemplating. Saved over $300 Smilie.

I will say there is nothing special about All Clad's nonstick pans. Their stainless steel/copper pans are worth the premium but you're not going to get much better performance from like a $20 T-fal.

No matter where you go, non stick pans will only last a few years at best. There is no company with a magical coating

Too many options for the non All Clad connoisseur. Can someone suggest pieces to make a good quality set without going overboard? Macy's had the D3 deal a few days ago but some of the pieces were on the smaller side, and suggestion was to wait for a sale like this.

Would love to also hear recs to build a set!

From reading over previous comments, seems 12 in skillet would be the way to go for fry pan. Also add saucier (3-4qt), stockpot (8qt better for family), and sauce pans (2-3qt). I think some previous reviews stated the stock pot and sauce pans don't need to be expensive, as minimal added benefits of higher layers or copper core for boiling things.
personally, i don't believe in cookware sets, same as I dont believe in knife sets. Buy the best pot for the job you need.

I love rondeau because it's a saute pan, braise/stew pan, soup pot and a fry pan all in one. It has limitations, obviously too... it's 12" base, no lid, etc...

Stock pots are that size for a reason... they are narrowed base and taller, so they fit better in fridges, and for soups. you don't need as much of even or controlled heating because it's very hard to burn soup... (although some have tried).

These pans are super-well made, and there's really not a lot that can go wrong with them over the years except for the coating. If that's not covered under normal use, well, the warranty is essentially worthless.

Also my impression from their warranty statement is that ALL of their cookware is covered by a lifetime warranty. The exclusions state:
• Normal product wear and tear.
• Discoloration, warping, or metal separation due to high heat or prolonged heat exposure when empty, or non-stick deterioration that occurs from misuse or abuse.

It would stand to reason that the warranty applies to the non-stick coating with normal use. What they don't specify is that it wears off with normal use, and that is not covered.
Their lifetime warranty also may not get honored if the plys erode due to dishwasher use despite All-Clad indicating dishwasher safe. Being sorted out with Justin Mears v. All-Clad Metalcrafters, LLC.

Do not buy non stick. Learn to use stainless, I can cook everything with stainless steel without food sticking to it. All u need is a bit of patient and preheat the pan correctly
How do you do fish filet and fried eggs with stainless without having it swim in oil? I preheated and then added oil and they still stick unless it is sitting in 1/8" of oil.

oil is not necessarily bad. if you preheat the skillet and then add oil and give it extra 30 seconds to get hot. then put fish and let it sit, and only turn when it's ready, it should release fine. but i guess it also means how you cook fish... do you flour it? or break crumbs or some other coating? or straight up with salt?

Just salt and pepper. "Wasted" a lot of salmon over the past year trying to cook on stainless as it breaks apart when flipping. Using nonstick for fried eggs and salmon. No problem with scrambled eggs on stainless. Searing steaks on carbon steel.

problem is. i am too opinionated Big Grin almost no one finds rondeau as useful as I do and many have to deal with 'matching' factor or wife cares about looks factor or other things...

+ I am more glad to give me opinion here, vs somewhere else Smilie

I asked last year but never got a response. Is "Packaging Damage" a "grade A" pan in a damaged box? Confused they would put in on sale if they could just replace the box.
