how does costco warranty works if something goes wrong? you have to send to them for repair? I am debating if its worth applying for their card to get extra 2 year warranty..not sure if any of my credit card would extend warranty beyond 2 years after costco's run out.

my Dell 7579 which is almost 4 years old still running flawless, no slow down even with 30+ chrome tabs, Dell support is also excellent, still getting driver, BIOS updates from time to time.

What happened to your Laptop, does the SSD died? in that case blame Sandisk..
I can believe all that other stuff, but you must live in an alternative universe where Dell's support is "excellent." Usually it goes:
"Hey, I have an issue I need help with."
"Have you tried restarting the computer?"
"Yes."
"Then I'm gonna go ahead and put you on hold until you go away."
"Wait, no, I--"

lol, in my book support is excellent when it works without any issue, by providing timely updates they are providing excellent support even after 3 1/2 years,

the laptop still works like new..

See below post, this person's experience could be an exception, but it provides you details about the warranty process..

FYI we just tried to use the Costco Concierge extended warranty for an Acer soon we bought Jan 28 2018.

Spent hours waiting on hold for Costco Concierge only to be told that the warranty is thru Citi not them, Called Citi, they directed me back to Costco. 2nd call to Costco after hours on hold again, finally find out there is a form you fill out and send to Citi. Sent form, few days later get a response that need a repair estimate. Call Costco Concierge again, yup, hours waiting on hold. Finally get thru, told to call Acer, called Acer and was told since outside the Acer warranty it would be $449 for them just to receive the laptop and assess what was wrong. Sent that email to Citi as repair estimate, nope, not good enough, got response back that they require a detailed breakdown and parts and labor cost. Gave up at that point. From our experience the 2+2 warranty is useless and false.

I got the laptop recently and so far it's ok. The big draw to me was the upgradable hardware, the amd ryzen chip, and that it had a numeric keypad.

I do wish it had a better keyboard feel to it though. Coming from a company mac laptop, I had a little difficulty feeling for the f/j key indentations at first. The font isn't as easy to read as the mac's.

I hooked up a logitech external keyboard and mouse so that I can work with an external monitor and sometimes the mouse pointer freezes. I haven't had time to figure that out yet.

My kids have been all over it so I can see it's a fingerprint oil magnet. They're visible due to the dark metal color. If I keep it I can see the benefit of getting some type of skin for it.

The screen is ok as well. I haven't had a chance to bring it outside but for my indoor work it'll do.

As far as the fan, I agree with what others have said. The laptop is quiet. The fan doesn't turn on often. Only time that I recall is when I updated the bios. It turns on less often than the mac's when the kids are playing roblox.

Overall though, it's a good laptop. It's hard to beat for the price and for the peace of mind that comes with buying it from costco and their visa card. So far I haven't had a chance to verify that though.

Sorry to hear about this. I would be interested to know what would happen if you try to return it and get your money back. I think with what you've gone through you have a case for getting a refund.

edit: looks like laptops only get 90 days return.

Kids are definitely especially oily little creatures! Mine gets a fingerprint or two on it now and then, but I can't imagine letting this thing near any kids I know. The mouse pointer thing is weird, hopefully you can clear that up. The keyboard feels okay to me, but I agree that it's certainly not on Apple's magic keyboard level or Lenovo's ThinkPad level.

Seriously annoying, but not totally useless on the warranty. Dealing with bureaucracies is often like that, they both need certain things and you just have to provide it, however massively annoying. I'd like to know if they would have actually repaired it had they got the right information.

I just bought this laptop about a week and half ago and the laptop's touchpad area now rattles a bit when i tap on it. I like the laptop overall but I do wonder about the build. It seems to be an ongoing issue with the series as i did a google search on it and lots of discussions came up.

I do not want to open it up and void the warranty so I will most likely return or maybe exchange as the specs are just the best value right now. Just my 2 cents

Thanks. I remember calling Concierge service once for my older LG TV and they were useless..Most warranty claims are plain to deal with usual but i suppose costco manages to steal business with warranty and may be lot of times you hope never have to use it but i would be pissed if they denied or do nothing about the repairs.

As of now, I've done everything up to gaming. I tried 4k60fps video, several updates, and multiple userbenchmark tests, but the only time the fan came on was when I updated the BIOS.
Received mine yesterday, Same here, never heard the fan until installing a bios update. After that seems quiet again....

Yeah noticed the same and it didn't look very straightforward to pry it off.

The back cover on the hp laptops have clips so you need to push in a bit for it to release. I have 2 other hp laptops and they're the same way.
