I am SO confused as to why you purchased the Dell, slower CPU, and no SSD is going to really bog down your system and boot times. Off the bat you'll need to swap out the HDD for $140, and 12gb memory is OK but eventually if you want to go to 16gb you'll need to swap out the memory.
Sorry pasted the wrong link. I bought hp https://www.costco.com/hp-14%22-l...79296.html

This laptop's battery is a beast. Running from 7 hours and 30% still left.
Yeah, I been seeing how long it can really last. Seems almost 10hr surfing the net.

Regarding the RAM upgrade, would a single 16GB module work, leaving one of the exsiting 4GB module, taking the RAM to 20GB? Rather than using 8GBx2 modules.

ordered 2x16g crucial 3200 @$125 no tax
Will you please let us know if this runs at 3200MHz once it's installed?

I think I made a mistake ordering Ballistix ram since it looks like it only runs at 3200MHz if you can activate the XMP profile in the bios which I don't see on this laptop.

I'm going to send it back since I ordered it from Amazon and it has free returns, but would like to know what RAM besides the 2x4GB installed by HP will run at 3200MHz, and I'd like to get 2x16GB.

It's funny you asked, I just upgraded using a single DIMM of 16gb ram, and it's working! I used this ram: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...=UTF8&th=1
I may never need 32gb, but I now have room for it just in case. See posted screenshot here: https://www.screencast.com/t/HeSbN0tT

Yes it runs @ 3200 mhz, see posted screenshot of single DIMM 16GB. I did specifically purchase 3200mhz memory for this: https://www.screencast.com/t/HeSbN0tT

There is supposedly some benefit to operating it dual channel, but I must admit I don't know what it is lol

Yes when you open up the laptop for whatever reason the warranty will be void. I asked Costco tech at the store.
Can anyone confirm this? Total deal breaker if so

You don't have the fan noise issue ?
Fan noise only during bios update, rest of the time zero noise.

Can anyone recommend a good pen to go with this laptop? The HP one seems pretty unresponsive to me.

It would work but Its recommended to used same Brand, speed and Capacity of RAM in both channels to get optimum performance.

But you didn't specify what exactly you were doing... 😉
