It's been $22 the past 6 months, so save $4, not too bad

I bought this for $13.49, but end up not using it. Basically instead cutting, it stretches the plastic coating and leaves a ugly mark on the remain coating.

Am I doing it wrong? How does it compare to regular wire stripper that only cuts to skin deep?

I bought it when it was posted here on SD for $9.98, I used it a few times and worked pretty good, in fact the cheaper one I have stretches the plastic and doesn't cut.

Yes, just the coating. Here is the thing, regular wire stripper makes the just right amount of cut on the coating, so you can just pull off the coating.

The self adjusting one makes a small cut and then pull the coating off, the teeth grabbing the coating has to be eat into the coating and left a mark. That's the issue.

Do you see the white mark on the red coating, that's what I mean.

And if you watch the video, the cut is hardly clean due to it's pulling off the coating, not cutting.

You don't want to cut the wire, just the coating, right? They're all like how you describe. You could use a razor, for example, but you risk cutting the wiring too.

Buy a wire stripper from Ideal Industries. The quality is night and day and worth the extra premium

Depends on your intended usage

I love these wire strippers. Miles better than the typical squeeze and pull variety that most people own. If you make up wires even just once a year these are worthwhile.
