One negative thing about this is that it lacks POE, not future proof.
I have this same unit and I like it. I use Arlo indoors and Swann for the outside. The plusses on this unit are the motion detection lights and the quality of the video. Swann has also made the cameras a little easier to install and hide the wiring. The negatives are the phone app (no where near as polished as Arlos, Swann also does not stream the same resolution video to you mobile device as it records, instead it streams an extremely low resolution non-HD video. I also hate the heat sensing, it sounds like a great feature to use in conjunction with motion detection, but just doesn't work. I was constantly getting spammed with alerts.
Compared to Lorex or QSee, Swann is much more polished.

This camera design looks nicer than the Costco lorex.

Pretty sure the Costco one was only 1080p if its the one from the other day. This is 4k so you cant even compare the two, not to mention this has 2TB drive the other one only had 1TB if i recall correctly. This also has their heat sensing technology to help with false positives triggering the camera motion sensors. So if thats the one this is way way better.

I am close to buying a new house, and this would be a great new addition if I lock down the new house, but on the fence so I dont keep spending on things I dont need till I get the house. 8 4K cameras and 2 TB Drive, this is really hard to beat.

Isnt the price difference from standard wired connectors to POE for this type of 4K unit almost a $400-500+ difference? Not really worth the cost difference to just gain the advantage of one cable over two for easier install. What other future proofing you talking about, the standard cables performance wise work just as well if not better for pushing data streams?

I spy with my little eye, BNC connectors. DVR v. NVR. Not IP cameras so of course no POE.

Sorry to be off topic, but does anyone know of any system that will allow me to setup my current ip wifi cameras with a dvr that lets me view my cameras on alexa? Basically already have cameras (zosi) that are wired (12v power, the connection itself is wifi) and that I am happy with, but would like a hub or dvr or bridge or something that allows me to say "alexa show x camera" and hoping its a lot cheaper than replacing all my cameras with a system like this or arlo/ring/blink/etc

HI PeteyTheStriker,

There's a lot more going on for a $400-500 price difference than just the connectors.

Better performing cameras typically, "smarter" cameras, ...

Also, the time and effort running the cabling should be taken into account.

If you want to go with a DVR kit then I would recommending using quality cat6 cable and baluns so you can easily upgrade the kit in the future with an IP PoE setup if you so like.
( easier / cheaper to do this route than using IP PoE on coax... )
