Seriously. I've been super eager for a price cut on the oasis, Amazon does a 20% discount for a trade in and my wife would love one. Annoying it hasn't happened since Black Friday.

I received an oasis from work a few months ago as part of a rewards program there. Upgraded from a kindle paper white. Is this worth 250 or even 200? Not in my opinion. If I were actually buying I would go with a paper white since newer ones I think are waterproof as well. This is a little nicer but not worth the premium being charged.

Can you compare the text quality on the paper white vs oasis?

I had the first gen paper white. The display is a little crisper on oasis. The only time I might notice is if I were looking at a map or some type of picture in a book. I don't read graphic comic books and most books I read don't have many pictures. The light quality is slightly better in the oasis and has a self adjust mode which I turn off because it's usually too bright for me. Also the battery life on oasis is much less, I could go weeks and weeks without charging on the paper white. The oasis I would probably have to charge once a week if I read a few hours per day.

The oasis seems to be a better more modern product with little features like auto adjust lighting and page turn buttons which are nice, it has a battery notch and the rest of the device is amazingly thin. If you want the best, oasis is better, but not perfect and for me it would not be worth the 2-3x extra for what it delivers.

200 for an oasis is a solid price if that's what you are in the market for.

Ty for detailed follow up!

Seems like I should hold on to the paper white for now. Hopefully amazon runs a promotion on the new one, sucks they delayed prime day.

The newest paperwhite and the oasis have the same spec screens (300 ppi), so the text is exactly the same. The big feature for newer oasis that no other Kindle has is color temperature adjustment. Otherwise, there's really not much else to differentiate.

Also, a lot of people complain that the battery life of the oasis is pretty bad compared to the paperwhite. YMMV

Gotcha. I personally don't like the blueish backlight on my paper white (it's a 7th gen). Only reason I was really considering upgrading (vs the yellow tint on the oasis).

I found the yellow light on the Oasis to be a gamechanger. I ended up paying $260 for my Oasis (I bought the highest-spec version, then traded in a paperwhite for 20% off coupon and gift card) and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. It's easy to hold and one of the few ways I can read before bed without hurting my sleep patterns.

I understand that some people may be more sensitive to light temps, but the Kindle paperwhite and oasis feature a front lit screen rather than back lit. So the lights are actually shining on the screen rather than from the back of the display, such as you might experience on a phone, tv, or tablet.

Not to disparage, just making the point that they have put considerable thought into making the lighting as non disruptive as possible. Obviously a lot of people wanted the color temp options, which is why they added it to their now flagship offering. Recent studies seem to suggest that overall brightness is more important than color temperature anyway, but again, it's up to your own personal preferences. Many studies showed a statistically significant reduction in sleep hormones regardless of the hue.

Quote :
"The study's main takeaway is that changing screen color alone is insufficient for limiting the impact of PEDs (personal electronic devices) on melatonin levels in the evening, and that screen brightness should also be reduced," LRC noted.

LRC applied four different conditions over four nights. It reported "significant" melatonin suppression on three different nights, including the night when the young adults used their iPads on warm (2837K), as well as the night they switched on the cold (5997K) setting.

"There was no significant difference between the effectiveness of the two Night Shift settings," LRC stated.

I'm also curious if you could buy 2 and then return 1, seems like it would be a pretty good deal if you could.

Best I found was a deal for it at $200 with the 20% off coupon for a trade in. I got one for my wife for $142 total.
