Just read a news release when I was trying to find some product info:

June 16th, 2020

Guangzhou Powecom Labor Insurance Supplies Co., Ltd appoints www.bonafidemasks.com , a division of Ball Chain Mfg. Co., Inc. as the new premier distributor for our FDA Authorized KN95 mask products in the USA.

FDA Appendix A: Authorized Imported, Non-NIOSH Approved Respirators Manufactured in China (Updated: June 17, 2020) [fda.gov]

The unit price isn't cheap: $2.4 each and shipping fee is kind of high: around $14 per order via UPS ground, although you can order more to cut down both unit price and shipping cost per unit.

However, this may be the first time we know we can get a quality KN95 on FDA authorization list from a trustful vendor which is endorsed by manufacturer.

Don't wash these...it will weaken the electrostatic effect and filter less. Maybe put them on a rotation schedule by letting them sit.

Also, check your masks carefully. I ordered a pack of 10 from NEHydro and one mask was not stitched well at the top and I could see the layers.

I have never seen a Powecom kn95 with any thread comes off. However, i have never bought any export English version.

You might be right. I don't work for Powecom. And not ready yet to give it benefit of doubt. I also notice that there are more and more so called double meltblown layers in China KN95 Market. Maybe that's caused by mid-low grade meltblown fabric price crash along with face mask price. If manufacturers figure out it costs them less to use two layers of low price and medium-low grade multblown fabric, why do they bother using high price and high grade materials. This hypothesis makes economical sense at least.

I don't buy into those 5-ply marketing gimmick. My old and trustworthy 3M KN95 has only 3 layers, but you can see how crazily thick the middle meltblow it has:
Attachment 9170129

Again, if nowadays we can freely buy 3M/Honeywell masks, even it's KN95 standard, we won't consider those imported KN95s.

I dont know if thats a gimmick. May be another no brand or lessor brand do that.
However, I think those earlier 5 layers Powecom kn95 were the one being tested. If i were to sell 4 layers one, i would say otherwise. If anyone can call or email to verify with the MIT team that performed the test, that b great.

5 layers with 2 layers of melt-blown layers has its advantage. The 2 melt-blown layers' static can catch/attract different sizes particles/ droplet and as different density melt blown layers filter out different sizes particles, hence prolonging the usage time of the mask and enhancing the filtration rate.

However, I would still buy these Powecom kn95 (cut one off n test it before using it in any serious setting) or those Costco BYD one due to the fact that wearing face mask DOES help limiting the chance of catching or spreading the virus.

I missed those days when I can walk into a Home Depot n get a 3 bucks single 3m N95. or spend 13 bucks on Amazon to get 10 3m N95.

I am posting a couple Powecom Kn95 from Feb/ Mar which I sourced from the manufacture locating country. Both are KN95 grade as printed on the label and both has 5 layers.
One is with ear-loops and another has head band in N95 style (still a KN95.)
The package is for the white one.

Those brown bags are what I use to rotate these masks and I use each one around 15 to 20 times till I can feel I am having difficulty breathing through em. So having a set of 10 is great for rotation but not necessary.
I remember reading some UK medical workers saying 4 days is the minimum to rest (in a brown paper bag) the mask. So having a set of 5 would do the job as well.

深圳市永佳和商贸有限公司
that is the reseller chinese company name and I looked at its licensing.
it doesn't seems to have the level 2 medical equipment license to sell this product.
btw, it is for semi wholesale only 10 packs min.
the price for a 10 pcs/ pack during the "618 shopping holiday" at JD or Taobao was about CNY 89 (USD 12.4) (USD 1 to CNY 7.2)

As of today, i don't see any powecom kn95 selling in the local market there...strange.

Thank you for getting such important info. really helpful. It proves my hypothesis that those mask makers recently use two cheap meltblown layers to cut cost down, while promoting the 5-ply gimmick.

Guess we can only hope to get 4 layers? I don't like this practice. . Juggle
I am keeping an open mind with both 4 and 5 layers.
would'nt call the 5-ply gimmick.

For their Local market, Powecom is still selling both the 5 layers version and the Export English version.

It's possible the 5 layer ones were tested by the CDC but I find it strange that two people at Powecom that I contacted both said the ones FDA approved are 4 layers while acknowledging that they also sell 5 layers. Unless they are flat out lying to sell more of the cheaper 4 layer one which was not tested. Such a practice would get them taken off the approval list pretty quickly I think and I doubt they want that.

There are many scenario for what actually could have happened.

1) cdc tested the 5-layer version, Powecom has moved to make only the 4-layer version for both export n their local mkt.
Hard to explain to the oversea customer if I were them even assuming the 4-layers still as effective as the 5-layer. so a white-lie.

2) cdc tested the 5-layer version, Powecom makes both 4 & 5 layer version. the 4-layer version is not as good so only for higher profit export markets.
Lie through their teeth bait & switch sons of bxtches

3) cdc tested the 4-layer version ( I doubt it as the timeline doesn't match up,) the 4 layer version were always intended for export purpose and the 5 layers version are made for their local mkt.
both are effective products, different design, that's all.

4) cdc tested the 4-layer version (still doubt it,) the 4-layer export version has good 99% filtration rate and the 5-layer is even better.
so okay, they keep the better stuff for their local market.

I can go on and on but the fact of the matter is what can we get right now in the US market that is semi legit and semi affordable.

I would still go for this and the BYD @ Costco and some other brands that's white-listed on the CDC site.

The Powecom I got early were the exact same batch as CDC first test. DOM 20200310 from Factory A. Chinese version. It got 99% filtering efficiency and it's 4 layers. And it's very likely CDC tested random sample at that time. Only later FDA required manufacturers to submit samples.

The CDC also tested a batch in late may. This batch has the English packaging and the anti-fake labels. I wonder if those are 4 or 5 layer versions.

Ok I just read everything. Can someone just tell me if I should get these? lol I currently have been using the snow Joe ones without complaints.

If these are the quality of those, I would like to try

Also whats the safest method of payment to use on a site like that? I never heard of them, bonefidemasks

EDIT: Ordered 10. Might as well try it considering its around the same as the snow joe ones price wise. If they are good, I will bulk order more

Most would have more faith in these than Snowjoe since the CDC tested and the FDA EUA lists these (or a close variant) as approved for now. I tossed my Snowjoe ones and am using these daily.

I think each nation has different requirements on what can be listed as medical use. In this case it might be due to ear loops, fluid resistance, etc. Perhaps only FDA class 2 devices can be listed for medical use? You'll sometimes even see "suitable for healthcare workers, but not approved for medical use where the risk of infection is high"... doesn't really help.

So, does anyone know if the Powecom masks NEHydro is currently selling are 4-layer (non-tested, presumably) or the 5-layer (tested) version?
