Just read a news release when I was trying to find some product info:

June 16th, 2020

Guangzhou Powecom Labor Insurance Supplies Co., Ltd appoints www.bonafidemasks.com , a division of Ball Chain Mfg. Co., Inc. as the new premier distributor for our FDA Authorized KN95 mask products in the USA.

News link:

FDA Appendix A: Authorized Imported, Non-NIOSH Approved Respirators Manufactured in China (Updated: June 17, 2020) [fda.gov]

The unit price isn't cheap: $2.4 each and shipping fee is kind of high: around $14 per order via UPS ground, although you can order more to cut down both unit price and shipping cost per unit.

However, this may be the first time we know we can get a quality KN95 on FDA authorization list from a trustful vendor which is endorsed by manufacturer.

I am providing the aforementioned and forthcoming information based on online research, in order to help people who may need quality masks during current pandemic. Stick a fork in this "deal":

Government of Canada has issued a RECALL on these products.
Health Canada has determined that certain respirators that do not meet performance standards may pose a health and safety risk to users when used in a setting that requires 95% filtration (such as a health care settings).
https://healthycanadians.gc.ca/re...7a-eng.php

I'm Canadian, so have been checking this list periodically but not recently. These were added to the list at the end of May for FAILING standards.

Thanks to masterstanf2k for the heads-up.
Interesting. I've been checking the FDA list daily as well. Might drop off there soon too. Thanks for the update all.

Agreed. I just don't follow how the same material can prevent Exhalation emissions but not the same droplets from being inhaled.
For surgical mask and cloth mask, it has something call air leakage. Cloth mask covering during loud talking, may be able to stop large droplet from traveling long distance beyond 6 feet because the cover/mask is directly in front of the mouth. Air may leak from the side of the mask but the air that leak likely won't be able to travel beyond 6 feet and most of droplet likely captured by the mask.

That's why it is important even if everyone wear face mask, still need to keep 6 feet of distance.

As for protecting you, it is also related to air leakage. If you are in a high risk area that the air already contain a lot of Covid-19 droplet (like in hospital or people just don't care enough to wear facemask and you can't keep social distance). Or in door area with lot of people and very poor ventilation, etc. I think some website mentioned KN95 allow up to 10% of air leakage. And good surgical mask probably on average 30% leakage. While really bad cloth mask could have 90% leakage.

Now during inhale, depend if you are using KN95, good surgical mask or cloth mask, you will breath in various amount of Covid-19 droplet already in the air from a high risk area because of air leakage of the face mask. Face mask will still protect you and reduce the amount of Covid-19 droplet you breath in but not 100% because of air leakage. That's why in indoor area, N95 > KN95 > good surgical mask (USA standard ASTM F2100) > medical 3-ply mask > other 3-ply mask > cloth face mask , for protecting you from others.

I'm still gonna use them when I get them. Hope they don't fall off. Isn't it also possible to the tested product was just a bad one in circulation but most are good?

In the end though, they are better then the blue ones and face coverings

I'll probably do the same. It's possible but I guess any or certain amounts of inconsistencies in manufacturing processes are considering red flags for government approvals in healthcare settings.

Thanks. I've been debating if any of these KN95s are really that much better compared to a ASTM Level 1 or higher surgical mask where the seal is improved by doing something as shown at www.fixthemask.com

The 2 methods use by www.fixthemask.com, the rubber sheet method seems better.

And the study they do, it show their method pass the N95 test.
https://medium.com/@fixthemask/la...59dbb926a3

And since N95 not supposed to have much leakage and KN95 allow up to 10% of leakage, then the www.fixthemask.com method that pass the N95 method may be better than KN95(?)

Need to remember N95 usually not as comfortable as KN95 between of tighter fit to avoid air leakage. So using extra rubber bands or rubber sheet will make surgical mask tighter and less comfortable than just surgical mask by itself. May be use it only in high risk area for shorter amount of time.

not sure if these are impacted, but there's apparently a recall of products here: https://healthycanadians.gc.ca/re...7a-eng.php [gc.ca]

good info. but I will still buy authentic powecom kn95, unless affordable and real N95s are available, or powecom is out from FDA list.

Their rubber bands option may not be practical because it is to harsh for ears. Don't think anyone could endure that. Rubber sheet option alone doesn't always work as desired and it needs cushions to achieve N95 level seal. Still those are good ideas and can help people in need.

When I went to the "recall" link I noticed that the Powecoms on the "recall" list had two distributor names listed next to them (FudakinLED Lighting Ltd., FYi Doctors Eye Care Services). The only Canadian distributor listed on the Powecom site is JD ORAL CARE MFG INC.--that distributor is not listed on the Canadian "recall" list. So, I guess my question is this: are only the Powecoms from the two listed distributors recalled (I'm assuming because they had fake Powecoms) or are all Powecoms recalled? (The Canadian site has a link that takes you to the CDC NPPTL assessment site that, as someone else noted, has Powecoms listed as both "good" and "bad"...I'm assuming the bad ones may have been fake Powecoms.)

FYI--Massachusetts also had test results for Powecoms in April and the numbers were in the low 90s. At this point, with no other viable options, I'm happy to have something that is at least that good...and maybe better based on the other results on the CDC NPPTL assessment site.

Yeap. They had some people using headbands with paperclips to hold the rubber bands instead of using them on the ears. One of their tests actually shows a guy wearing the Powecom with the rubber strap. Never seen that. At this point I'm almost ready to use a cloth mask with the pouch inside and cutting out a HEPA filter to put in the pouch πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

Folks, I reached out to bonafidemasks about this and received the following response from them.
They also requested a response from Powecom, which they've shared. I've linked to it below.

As you may know, we are the premier distributor for the Guangzhou Powecom Labor Insurance Supplies Co. Ltd. (Powecom) in the USA so we have a direct relationship with the factory and also purchase directly from them. On May 10th of this year Powecom added the anti-fake sticker to their bags to combat all the fraudulent products in the marketplace. Powecom stated that the masks that are in the test that in your link are fakes. You can tell the difference by the perforations on the masks, especially the ones you see on the inside of the masks for the nose piece. The ones that tested poorly do not have the same perforations as the genuine Powecom KN95 mask. They also said that the 2 companies in Canada that are listed on the site are not their distributors and they do not know the 2 companies. Powecom is a well known company and prides itself on their quality. Genuine Powecom masks have always tested well.

As you can see in the below links the genuine Powecom masks have always tested amazingly well with awesome results.

Thanks for sharing. What I find puzzling is that I assumed the CDC and Health Canada would have gotten their test batches directly from the manufacturer and not distributers. If that's the case there should have been no counterfeits during testing?
