And yes, HP definitely makes the worst laptops by far. Have had way too many just fall apart at the hinges just from regular opening and closing.
Lenovo used to be the best for business machines, but now that they are soldering their RAM I am very hesitant to get one.
Bestbuy student deals are supposed to be for students including K-12 kids and their parents. So you can sign up as a parent of a child in K-12 school. I did it that way myself and I see the deal. They didn't ask for any proof of eligibility but their terms say that they may do so at any time.

This is apparently a common problem with dell laptops. i have a HP laptop like from a million years ago and still works (on linux). All i am saying is there are bad apples everywhere and we will eventually end up with at least one

I agree on the power button...unless they have decreased the sensitivity, I see a lot of unintended shutdowns/sleep cycles.

Yeah but many bad apples leads to a bad bushel. 7 bad HP laptops of various models can't be good.
Lenovo laptop was a disaster for me. HP good for a few years.

I am leaning towards the HP Envy x360. The ram is upgradable and the screen is larger if I am not mistaken. However, the Envy is on the heavier side and I am not hearing great things about the screen quality.
