I had an Alcatel Idol 3 (Company is owned by TCL). The final firmware update installed a bunch of adware apps that could not be disabled or removed without rooting the phone. I would not recommend buying a TCL phone.

Putting the nefarious intentions of the Chinese companies aside if this was any other top brand we would have over 50 likes on this deal. All that being said the skepticism is real.

I agree. TCL phones? You can't ride on the performance of your TVs and expect that to carry over to smartphones. $160 (or less) is a good price point to expect users to take a chance on a Johnny come lately. Updates and warranty response are unknowns at this point and I don't wish to roll the dice at $200+. Might wind up being a great budget phone but that remains to be seen.

I like my Leeco phone (LeMax2) still using with Lineage OS w/ Google Camera Mod, Battery is crapping out. Still Looking for a new phone to replace my aging phone. This phone looks good for the price but won't bite this until it has custom roms.
