I bought a set of the 530's last time they went on sale. I wasn't expecting much, but I was very impressed with the speakers. Coming from a set of Pioneer AJ floorstanders, much improved clarity, imaging, and bass.
Anybody in the Bay Area interested in a pair of 6 month old 530s for a couple bills? PM me.
Nothing wrong with them, I just ended up going with floorstanders instead.
Somebody should hop on this...I got a pair last sale and they're amazing
The 580s are the best speakers in the house and it's not close imo. They should be better since they cost more but those kefs and the lsr both have deservedly good reputations. In my subjective view the 580 and lsr share uncanny imaging and tweeter behavior, hf sizzle (580 smoother) and general eagerness to have fun. The 580 behaves like a slightly more refined and much more scaled up/powerful lsr.
I know the SVS are double the cost, but are they worth double cost?
Someone is selling some SVS Pinnacles and I am hoping they will sell a pair to me at $800-$900.
Well if you could get the SVS Pinnacles for $800-$900 I would go that route, but if they are going to cost twice the price of the 580s($600->$1200), I would go with the 580s. Another factor to consider is the fact that these 580 deals will likely come again, as they have in the past. While the Pinnacle deal for you might not come around again. And if you can get the Pinnacles that cheap I would buy them for sure because even if you don't like them, you can probably resell them for the same amount.
Last thing I would consider, and it may not matter to you, is the appearance. I personally believe this JBL Studio line is ugly as all hell. Ironically I own the sub(550p) but its on the ground in a corner of my studio so no one really sees it.
As far as the sound goes, I haven't heard either. I've only heard the Prime bookshelves and Ultra Bookshelves(own). Its probably going to be difficult to find anyone whose heard BOTH the tower speakers you're considering here. Good luck! Both seem like good choices and deals.
Thinking about downsizing, my 14x20 theater room doesn't quite need the B&Ws I have in there currently. I'm really tempted by a pair of 530s and a 520c, I just wish the center was bigger, more for matching than output.
Got three 590s the last time this deal popped up. They are great. Even my wife liked how they looked... just not the size. They are in the dedicated theater room so she is fine with them. I love them. They are huge. Wish they had front firing ports though.

The JBL Studio 500 series are unique! Way better than many more 3xpensive ones!
