My local tv store named 'Video Only' offered me $950 for an pre-order on Denon AVR-X3700H. I negotiated it down to $900 since it won't come in until 2-3 weeks later. Video Only has Several stores in Washington, Oregon, and Calibration. I cannot guaranteed you will be able to buy it for the same price but here to share. I willl post my receipt tomorrow when I go in the store.
Almost all the things he posts are accurate but useless. The 4700 is crystal clear and practically distortion free until you get to essentially theoretical volume levels. Read the charts and ask yourself how often you're listening above 100db. The
Answer should be almost never because you'll go deaf.

Imagine a BMW that is advertised has having a top speed of 140 mph. A car reviewer takes a test drive and finds that the thing shakes like a rickshaw at over 90 mph. Your response: "Hey, forget about that - you should never be driving at over 70 mph anyway". It doesn't work like that. That's an argument you might make to make yourself feel better if you've already bought the car and have just read the review.
When we buy stuff we want the best we can get for our money irrespective of whether we'll use every feature to its fullest or not. In the case of the X4700H, do you think that that's the best you can get for the money ($1700)? If the X3700H tested similarly, do you think that it would be the best choice for your money? It's possible the answer in both cases could be yes, but I'd be sure to do my research before committing.
As for Amir's reviews - he often calls out that you get a lot of functionality for your money with modern AVR's and that often necessitates them being jacks of all trades but masters of none.
@joelchan1966, any luck after going in today? I'm waiting for the review from Amir as well, but have fingers crossed this won't have the same issues as the AVR-X4700h, and still earmarking any deals

I just ordered my x3700h this afternoon, will probably take three weeks.
Just tried calling some Video Only stores in my area and all said the 3600 is discontinued and offered the 3700 at a discount. One said the 3700 could be arrive as "early as Wednesday" if I preorder. Really had my heart set on that deal for the 3600 as I know it's a really recommended receiver. Hopeful that the 3700 gets much better reviews than the 4700, but we'll see.

Damn, what a great price for the 3700. Too bad they aren't in TX

That was the first price I was given by the salesman. Didn't have to negotiate. But it possible you might have to if they start higher.
