These are the officially refurbished by Nintendo handhelds. they even have some of the old school 2DS hardware for 50. They also have the official chargers for five bucks.
$49.99 (2DS). Cheapest entry point to 2DS/3DS family. Comfortable to play for a long period of time, like Gameboy Color, sort of.Easier to repair if mechanically inclined.
$99.99 (New 2DS XL). Great alternative to current $99.99 Walmart deal when unavailable. Bigger screen. Faster load time. Game cartridge slot is covered. Stereo sound (2DS is mono). Recommended if don't care for 3D function.
$119.99 (New 3DS XL). Same upsides as 2DS XL. 3D function is consistently well done. 3D function is NOT a gimmick. It works nice.
Previously owned: 2DS, 3DS XL and New 3DS XL Pikachu Edition
Have: 2 x New 3DS Mario Black Friday Edition from 2016 (discontinued)
I have an original 3DS and a XL. Tempted to grab a New 3DS XL before they're all gone. With the library of 3DS and original DS games, I think this is still the best portable system available today.

From what I've seen, there's no such thing as "Refurbished by Gamestop"...unless you define "refurbished" as taking something stuffing it in a box without even looking at it.

That's GameStop's term: Refurbished Premium. Just a marketing tactics.
In my experience, the items come as if "new" in quality. No fingerprints, dust, or signs of use whatsoever. Seems they have high standards. Ordered 2 refurb consoles last year
Walmart has new 2ds XL with Mario for $99. They're out of stock frequently but if you want new for the same price, it might be worth checking.
I thought I read somewhere that the DS was discontinued / production has stopped... so refurbished might be the best we are going to get until they're all gone

Eh, I'd say that it's "neat" but I got headaches after 10-15 minutes of using it. Some games used it nicely, others it was just a gimmick that IMHO made it seem like a lower resolution.
One thing to note is that these systems are stupid easy to mod.
That said, unless there are games you really want to play on the 3DS platform, the Switch Lite is an overall better system with a significantly better screen.

Refurbs from Nintendo is like new. Good chance to get one before it is gone forever.
Dammit...I was trying to ignore this thread but this comment made me finally pull the trigger on buying 2 more 2DS consoles.
I already had one 2DS for my kids at this price, but I have 3 kids and this way they won't have to fight over them and it's not a bad deal since it was $150 for three 2DS consoles.
I still have my original 3DS and 3DS XL (first releases) consoles for myself, plush my older DS Lite consoles from a long time ago. That should be plenty for playing the tons of DS/3DS games I have collected over the years.
While the 3D feature is one of the more effective uses of 3D technology I've seen, it doesn't really add any gameplay value since every game is also playable on a 2D screen. It's really just kind of a neat feature that I sometimes turn on but often turn off, but certainly not worth paying more than double the cost of the 2DS console.
However, if I was going to buy a 2DS XL, I'd probably spend the extra $20 to get the 3DS XL. For my kids though, I think the 2DS without the hinge will be much less likely to get broken.

I'm guessing not, but did those come with boxes?
Agreed. Same happened with DS/DSi systems at the end of their production runs. Best place to get a quality system, straight from Nintendo.
