I have this exact model purchased around 6 months back for full price. Resolution is good, better than those factory systems.

But where it sucks is the short but ultra wide reverse view. Weird Aspect ratio. They haven't fixed it with a firmware update. Either you can see the person or cart behind you, or you can see the curb. You can not see both at same time. Big design flow.

At nighttime, backup cam gets direct glare of headlights from vehicles behind you, makes it harder to see or read number plates.

Otherwise a very good price and reasonably good product. These issues are common to all similar mirror dashcam products.

Also mind well that you have to be somewhat handy to install this. Requires removing vehicle trims and depending upon your vehicle size/shape, sometime gets tricky. Watch installation video on YouTube.

Thanks OP and Good luck folks.

I watched the videos on Amazon and looked at the pictures. Read the product info. Still a bit confused.

It sounds like this is a device that fits over your current rear-view mirror. When the device is off, it acts as a regular rear view mirror. When it is on, it acts as a back up camera monitor. It also has a front facing camera.

Is that correct? Really it would be for people that don't already have a back up camera and do not have a stereo head unit that can show video of back up camera?

That is pretty much correct. I bought this as I needed both backup camera and dashcam.

Correct.

If you already have a reverse camera on your car, you can still use the front facing camera on this.

Just don't wire up the reverse sensor (usually connects to your reverse lights) and you have a dash cam that mounts to your rearview mirror.

I've currently got a Garmin dash camera and am aftermarket backup camera license plate frame. This is cool because I can get rid of the monitor stuck on my dash for the backup camera, and I can remove the dash camera from my windshield. It is kinda cluttered up there with all that and my GPS. Thanks op 🙏

If you don't have any rear view camera on your current car, chances are you don't have a LCD based infotainment system. Instead of getting this, I would get an android based head unit for $55 from ebay and the dash kit, rear camera, dash cam separately instead. The rear view mirror solution is indeed easier for installation but the mirror is often darkly tinted than the factory rear view mirror and can be dangerous during the night driving cause it's too dark.

If your goal for the dashcam include reading the license plate of other cars and has wide temperature range for the operation, look into standalone dashcams with capacitor based power source instead of cheaper Li-ion battery units like the one used in all rear view mirror units. Cheapest high quality ones are about $60 and above a pop and the recording has much higher chance to be useful when it comes to legal dispute. Search on youtube for best cheap dashcam in 2020 and you will quickly find what you are looking for.

An android based head unit also often comes with the GPS chip with antenna. I found it's a lot easier to use than the phone based solution. Half of the time I leave my phone in the car after using it for navigation before I switched the head unit.

Example: https://photos.app.goo .gl/RVrBJWbck492EtdZ7

Total cost was around ~$120 and one weekend to have everything (including a rear view camera and two much cheaper dashcams) installed.

There are much better ones, but basically you get what you pay for. The best one would capture a wide view in the back but shift the display area downward when you backup your car. I got several similar ones and I like the Eonon one below the most.
https://www.amazon.com/Eonon-Wate...47&sr=8-17
It got GPS, higher resolution than this one, autoshift backup display, lane assist, etc for just $40 more.

You get what you pay for with those Chinese cheap radios. Lots of bugs and no certifications. If something goes wrong and it damages your vehicle there's no one to blame but yourself

Please don't exaggerate. It's not going to damage your vehicle. That's why cars have fuses.

However, I will agree that the Android head units are just an odd setup in 2020. Five years ago and with an older vehicle, they were great at being an all in one solution.

But fast forward to now and your older vehicle is probably needing more work and due for a swap. Most vehicles 2010 or newer did away with standard double DIN setups, so you can't even drop one of these in without a custom faceplate and mounting hardware.

Also, even with Android 10, you're either looking at 30 second boot times on these units or you're constantly pulling 12v and risking a dead battery.

If you go the Android infotainment route, a much more manageable solution is a tablet connected to a power bank which is in turn connected to your 12v charger. A lot of cameras can connect via WiFi, which will cut down on the amount of cabling you have to run back to your dash.

And to top it off, you can then run screen mirroring so you have access to your phone on a much larger display.

I had one of this, the rear facing camera installation is a pain. And I switched to a smaller monitor with same design, the glare of other vehicles headlights blinds me.

Just curious why you switched to smaller monitor? I always thought smaller monitor (example 7 inch width instead of full 10 inch width) would make the aspect ratio better especially while reversing.
