Wow. The number of douchy comments that can accumulate on these threads never ceases to amaze me. When people like you post this stuff, it just makes me feel bad for you and wonder what level of inadequacies you are trying to overcompensate for.
I think there are better options available at this price range but I'm not going to put down people that are looking at this price point because I understand that people of all incomes may not NEED a $2K laptop when they just need something to check their email and do light work on.
Next time, think first and be better
Detailed specs [lenovo.com]

Though this model is a good value for $350, the display has a 220 nit, non-touch, TN panel. Also, the keyboard isn't backlit if that's important to you.
Every year some new thing to complain about becomes a trend. First it was backlit keyboards, touch screens. Now its "nits". An excessive amount of people talking about it now like its a crucial deal breaker. Little ridiculous.

also unless you're an old man, backlit is really not that important as most people know where every key is and the laptops glare lights up the keyboard well enough

Yep. If I needed to buy a laptop for telework, this would fit the bill quite nicely.

Cost is as low as possible with good performance, numpad, relatively large display and high resolution which is useful when working with Excel spreadhseets. Mind, Windows and Office runs fine even on 10 year old Nehalem CPUs as long as one has a decent SSD.

I have an older ThinkPad with 1366x768 and it feels relly cramped working on Excel. For me, 1080p's definitely worth the extra $50 over the Walmart version.

1080p IPS would be nice but with the Acer that was linked earlier, you only get 4GB RAM and 120GB storage which is just too little. Upgrading those would make it a $450-500 laptop rather than a $350 one.

Completely agree. Just a note though, I doubled the RAM on that Acer for $19 and doubled the memory with an SD for $10. If you happen to have an Amazon card that's 5% back on the entire purchase which essentially made the Acer $360. Even without worrying about any cash back and paying $380, I've been extremely impressed with the Acer. Browsing and multitasking has been snappy and we have had zero issues. We don't game on it and use it for work and casual use so it is not being taxed heavily. It's a great option, especially if it ever goes on sale.

If you are shopping this price range and want a better display than TN, another option to consider would be this highly reviewed model on Amazon for $350:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RF1X...cFbRHXKBGS [amazon.com]
I got this for my wife to do basic work from home. I upgraded the RAM to 8gb and it is more than enough for all the light use we throw at it. Yes, it is half the memory but memory cards are so cheap nowadays, I didn't sweat it.

The people do deserve the following:

3200u/1080ips/8/256/$299

Common. Someone give the ppl what they want. I'm holding out for the above.. unless my impulses get the better of me

I have no doubt the performance on the Ryzen is great. Apart from Atom CPUs, we've had an excess of CPU performance for years now.

That said, I probably would upgrade the internal SSD to a decent 250-500GB model (~$45-80) instead of adding a $10 SD card so my total cost would be over $400 with the Acer. This Lenovo, I'll be fine using as-is.

I think the Acer is the better laptop overall after RAM and storage upgrades. However, for dedicated telework use I'd rather get a cheap laptop that's good enough than an actual good laptop. Our office will scan and have full access of the PC and I'd rather not spend more than I absolutely need to.

Yup, about same price as a Chromebook and 10x better.
I'd still go for a Chromer. They've been covering all my needs since 2012 and I've never had them slow down or get a virus. An I3 in a Chromebook is wicked fast.

That would be super awesome. Even better if it's a 4300u (the 3200u's replacement). Even at $349 (regardless of 3200u/4300u), that would still be an awesome deal.

I've been out of the computer buying game for a while, so pardon this question: My wife has tasked me with getting a laptop for our 1st grader to do learning from home this coming semester. Seeing as how all I'm REALLY worried about is access to school programs via the internet(maybe some Zoom sessions and a website?) I assume this is more than adequate, but would greatly appreciate someone with a little insight to any downsides I may not be considering give me any advice with this unit? Seems like it would be exactly what we need. Thanks for any help!
Our 1st grader son used our 3 year old laptop for schooling this spring. It worked well. He was able to use all the programs and online tools the schools needed without problem. Google meetup, Zoom, Google classroom, and half a dozen other random websites they used for various stuff. It runs MS Word & Excel fine (though they don't use those for school)

This laptop beats our old laptop in every spec by like 2x . Our old laptop has just 4GB memory a 50% less powerful processor and an 11" screen. The only problem with our old laptop is that it gets bogged down if you have too many apps or chrome tabs open, but thats mostly due to the 4GB memory limit.

Yes, just the typical removal of 15 or so screws and separating the bottom cover from the rest of the laptop. I bought this laptop as an ACER store refurb in October 2019 for $270. It looked brand new when I received it. Pretty solid machine so far (fan got a little noisy from dust, but I just used a vacuum to try to fix the problem and it seems to have worked).

I just looked, and you can still buy it as a refurb for $300. Price seems kinda high considering I got it almost a year ago for $30 less, but I guess the pandemic has made wort at home-related stuff a bit pricier.

One DIMM is removable, so RAM upgrade to 12GB or 20GB should be possible. SSD is upgradable.

Any coupons?

Ssd is barely upgradeable and the upgrade will be expensive. 2242 is a not a common size and most nvme drives are 2280.

I added a 2242 to my laptop and the cheapest one I could find was $100 for a 512gb.

My hypothetical deals are always the best Smilie

I think the 4300u first slickdeal will come in around 399 but I doubt it's going to happen very soon -- the 4500u was featured in a nonSSD slightly nonsensical office depot build very briefly for 429 if i remember correctly. 449 for a 4500u with TN+SSD is probably coming soon if I'm just speculating.

The problem is with so much uncertainty in markets and in general, there is more of a question whether these deals will materialize than usual. The 349 acer 3200u system with the decent screen... that's been on sale for about a year now for that price. Normally out of principal I wouldn't bite on a deal that has been available for so long, but in this market it's really hard to tell.

..which is probably why this hit FP

Totally get that. Everyone has specific needs and sounds like you found yours. I just didn't want others to read your comment and think that they would need to spend $450-$500 to make my suggestion comparable in RAM and memory if that was a concern. Thanks for the feedback

Extremely easy. I had never upgraded RAM on a laptop before this one. Luckily, there are plenty of YouTube videos that will help you with the Acer model because it's pretty popular. I would say it took me 10 minutes from start to finish.
Here is the link for the 4gb RAM that I bought for it:
