Wow. The number of douchy comments that can accumulate on these threads never ceases to amaze me. When people like you post this stuff, it just makes me feel bad for you and wonder what level of inadequacies you are trying to overcompensate for.
I think there are better options available at this price range but I'm not going to put down people that are looking at this price point because I understand that people of all incomes may not NEED a $2K laptop when they just need something to check their email and do light work on.
Next time, think first and be better

Though this model is a good value for $350, the display has a 220 nit, non-touch, TN panel. Also, the keyboard isn't backlit if that's important to you.
Every year some new thing to complain about becomes a trend. First it was backlit keyboards, touch screens. Now its "nits". An excessive amount of people talking about it now like its a crucial deal breaker. Little ridiculous.

also unless you're an old man, backlit is really not that important as most people know where every key is and the laptops glare lights up the keyboard well enough

I'd still go for a Chromer. They've been covering all my needs since 2012 and I've never had them slow down or get a virus. An I3 in a Chromebook is wicked fast.
I've been using a Chromer for a bit. It's okay but a bit slow.....plus I can't run Adobe software on them. If you could, then I might.

Ssd is barely upgradeable and the upgrade will be expensive. 2242 is a not a common size and most nvme drives are 2280.

I added a 2242 to my laptop and the cheapest one I could find was $100 for a 512gb.
I checked out both the Lenovo and Acer and it looks like they support both M.2 2242 and M.2 2280. Plus, seems like these also support 2.5" 7mm SATA which is a pro for anyone wanting to add large, cheap storage.

Huh, that's cool, I didn't think there were slots that took both the 2242 and 2280. Maybe it's Lenovos weird thing where they put it in the 2.5 inch bay...

I was putting one in the wwan slot which is why I was constrained to that size

Solid specs for the money. TN panel sucks, but at least it is 1080p. If I was in the market for a $350 laptop, I would bite.

The connector is the same (well, either M key or M+B key depending on NVMe or SATA). It's just a question of whether there's enough space for the 80mm length card.

My old ThinkPad E540 only supported M.2 2242 SATA but the newest Lenovos I've checked out typically just use an adapter/extender to fit the M.2 2242 SSD into a M.2 2280.

https://psref.lenovo.com/ is a good resource for checking out what configurations are supported.

There was a review for the Acer that helpfully showed the internals and it showed a M.2 2280 SSD installed (whether stock or aftermarket upgrade, I don't know).

Man. no backlit keyboard!! Why would they go cheap on a $10 option. I'd gladly pay an extra $15 for it.

I bought a Yoga Pro a few years ago and the screen started having a flickering issues and dead zones just about a year later (out of warranty). I would periodically open up the screen to reconnect the ribbon cable inside, which would fix it temporarily, but now it is basically unusable and I need a new laptop. Obviously this has really soured my impression of Lenovo, but this seems like a good deal. I'm wondering if the issues were related to it being a touchscreen, or if a non-touch screen like this one could have similar issues. Anyone have a similar experience?

Trying to make decision between this one and Costco HP one (buying for kids). https://www.costco.com/hp-14%22-l...68642.html

Both are 350. I was able to apply a 25 off 75 coupon for Staples. Hence this one is 35$ cheaper than Costco one.
Pros of this one: 15.6" display. Lenovo brand. No noisy fan (read that in other thread for HP one).
Pros of HP: IPS screen, 250 nit (instead of 220 nit for Lenovo), 3.4lb compared to 4.1lb for Lenovo. Backlit keyboard, And i like 14" (personal preference)

Which one you experts suggest. Thanks for your help.

these budget laptops keeps reminding me how good of a deal those motiles were. superb built, form factor, small bezels, screen, specs, man those were such gems

i regret not getting one (or more) at $199. it's still being sold but is now $330-350. my kids are starting school next month and it's looking like it's going to be remote.

Even though the battery life is less than ideal and the screen is TN, you can't really get much better value than this at $300 ( wallmart).

The HP from Costco has the backlit keyboard but the whole keyboard is gray. In the dark, the backlit keyboard words. In the day time or with the lights on, the keyboard is horrible unless you are looking almost straight down. Apparently HP engineers missed this in their design.

IMHO I went with Costco because of their 90 days return policy. No hassle and their executive membership cash back. I also contemplated retuning Costco's and buying this one. In the end, we kept the HP from Costco because of their return policy.
