I couldn't find the 16GB model? The one in Amazon is $100 more for 16GB (don't care about the SSD since it is upgradeable) if I consider the CB of 12% effectively from lenovo directly.
The screen may be crappy and there may not be a lot of RAM, but for the price these things are easily overlooked.
Nice! Screen isn't THAT bad. I'd call it average. The RAM is alright if you watch your usage a bit and don't plan on doing anything intensive. Overall a great laptop for $470.
The truth is once you load Win 10, a couple of apps, and just ONE Chrome window with a handful of tabs, you'll likely be near 50% RAM usage with 8GB...and that's today. I love our Lenovo desktop. It's been a real champ for 5+ years and with an upgrade to 32GB, new RTX 2060 Super, and 1TB WD Blue SSD, it's a battleship once again.
But these Ideapad 3s and 5s with the soldered RAM are just a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, IMO. It's like selling you a Ferrari with bicycle tires on it. Yeah, it'll get you where you're going...eventually. But you should be prepared for constant crashes and restarts.
If you're going to pay for a Ryzen 5 4500U 6 Core beast, then you're setting yourself up for disappointment by just feeding it 8GB of RAM. In fact, the machine will probably be rendered near useless well before memory usage reaches 100%. I'm sure you all know this chip was just released in Q2 of 2020 and it's designed to handle much more than just checking email, stock quotes, and ordering from Bezos.
My humble suggestion is if you decide to plunk down $500-700 for one of the Ideapad 3s or 5s with the silly soldered 8GB RAM config, take it home and immediately throw everything you can at it software-wise. Surf the living crap out of it on the web. Open all the windows & tabs you can to find out where it becomes unresponsive. If that limit is something you can live with, then congratulations on your purchase. If it isn't, then you can at least return it before having to upgrade to another laptop next year.
I normally have 10-12 windows with a total of 100-120 tabs open on a normal day. I would make this machine cry and scream within the first hour...But that's me. Then again, an overabundance of RAM is a beautiful thing and frequently underappreciated.

Do you have a link to the Amazon one? I've been waiting for the Ideapad 5 14" Ryzen with 16GB for awhile now. It's listed in PSREF but I've never seen it on their site.

is available. Basically the same specs but adding a glossy touchscreen, 2-in-1 capability, and active pen support. It's $520, I would have to go with that one all day long.
