they run these 40% off sales a few times a year. it is the best time to buy. with this discount it puts the pricing in line with big box stores but you are getting a much better product. much better and consistent coverage.

If I don't know what color I want, I buy unmixed paint at this discount. When I decide on the color, I take it to the store and they mix it for free.

Yup. You can do this and they'll color it for you. Repainted our house about 3 years ago with the same deal (40% off and $15 off $75) and it's holding up nicely. Used superpaint for our rooms, pro classic for trims and molding , and duration for the kitchen.

You can buy the paint as whatever base it is in the can. They make three or four different bases depending on the final color you are going for, the Extra White being the most popular. Then you can just take it back to the store at a later time to get it tinted when you decide on a color.

Sometimes you know that you are going to repaint (that decision is usually easy) but not the exact color as that choice can take longer to determine. To get around that, people just buy cans of it at 40% off and then take it back after the sale is over for them to tint it.

Untinted would be the correct term, i.e. just the base, no color added. Go back at a later date to add the color tint.

i don't think i've ever stepped foot in a sherwin williams store in my life until earlier today. i bought $150 worth of stain, then come home and see this. i did get $30 off (it would have been 180), but this would have saved a lot more. oh well.
