***** UPDATE from a fellow SD'er seawolf *****

HD is dropping EGO because Lowes is picking them up.

From the Atlanta Business Chronicle today. Sorry, but I am on the app and cannot supply the link yet. Sinc many people have and use these tools this is more of an FYI.

Home Depot is cutting a brand from its inventory as part of a "reset" of its outdoor power equipment.

The Home Depot Inc. (NYSE: HD) said Tuesday it's "accelerating its investments" in the reset as it "refines and simplifies its primary brands across the category." That means, in part, discontinuing the Ego line of outdoor power tools, owned by Chervon Group, and have been sold at Home Depot since 2014. Ego products are also sold at Ace Hardware.

Home Depot said it will continue to sell cordless brands Ryobi, Makita, DeWalt, and Milwaukee; and gas-powered products from Toro, Echo, John Deere, Cub Cadet, Honda, and Troy-Bilt.

The Atlanta-based retail giant said the four remaining cordless options fit their aim to provide interchangeable batteries among products, and collectively make up the vast majority of platforms already owned by its customers.

"We are focused on the most relevant brands with the greatest adoption," Sara Gorman, a Home Depot spokesperson, told Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Gorman said it's not unusual for Home Depot to "refine our assortment" of brands but could not specify how often they are removed or when the last time it occurred.

Home Depot earlier this year started to more heavily emphasize its battery-powered equipment and group them by brand. Gorman said the company paused the rollout as stores had more pressing matters with response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This is a huge bummer. I love Ego products. Hopefully they can up their online presence and if Lowe's picks them up, they can maintain some sort of presence. I use the mower, blower, trimmer, and edger weekly, so I'd hate for them to die.

1. i hope i can pickup some battery/tool combos on clearance!
2. I hope they (ego) doesn't drastically change something when picked up by another (like Lowes as someone else pointed out.

That's a shame to hear, and I just picked up both the $200 trimmer and $209 chainsaw deals posted on here a few weeks ago, too. Hopefully Lowe's picks them up. They've been fantastic tools for me so far, so much so that I sold my old gas trimmer and saw.

Agreed. Ace Hardware isn't big enough.

Ace has tons of stores near me, but prices are not competitive- they only benefit from being on smaller corner locations closer to residences

Hopefully this means some good clearance deals from HD while the transition to Lowes happens. Lowes appears to have an exclusive contract with EGO.

So when does the clearance sale start?

Someone will pick up the brand. It has a pretty devoted following and is arguably one of the best electric lawn tool brands.

HD is probably just getting greedy and think they can make more profit if they don't have an EGO product sitting next to their Ryobi that they probably make a lot more money on per unit.

Guess what HD? If I wanted something cheap I would have bought Ryobi, but I wanted the better product.

Lowes has exclusivity with Greenworks 60V Equipment. Would seem that would hurt GW if Lowes sold Ego.

Ego must not have played well with HD Corporate and would not give desired price points. HD is a large Retailer and can wield lots of leverage on manufacturers. Same as Walmart.

And/or, the Ridgid line is going to provide competitive products. And Im ok with that!

Ugh I picked up the pole saw with a deal for $110 on Amazon and was waiting for the MHC1502 (multi-head system). I actually called Ego yesterday and they had no idea what the heck was going on. In stock nowhere.

Glad they are moving to LOWES!!! I have built a significant dislike for Home Depot overtime and had to shop for EGO stuff there. Now I can go to Lowes! Thanks for the article link.
