I'm not that familiar with weather stations, so I'm not sure how good of a deal this is.

La Crosse has their wind + weather station on sale for $49. Comes with Breeze Pro Sensor (wind speed, wind direction, temperature, and humidity sensor) and display. Seems like the display was supposed to have WiFi but they goofed at manufacturing. The Breeze Pro Sensor (LTV-WSDTH01) is normally $69.95 MSRP.

Edit: seems like it uses 915 MHz, so in theory you can buy it and a $20 RTL-SDR to get the data on your computer/Raspberry Pi/whatever. So for about $70 (the same price as the sensor itself), you get the sensor, the display, and a RTL-SDR dongle.

This is that crap version they have been pushing on instagram ads for half a year, because they are selling broken systems. I would link but since they are paid ads I don't have a URL, but I've seen a lot of bad comments about these systems being almost useless without wifi because the range is so poor, and complaints of the systems crapping out very quickly. They readily admit in the comments that these units were defective and the wifi chip doesn't work on it.

RED FLAG : If you are planning on adding a rain sensor - or any other sensor - take note "Note: Displays will not have enough fields to display all sensor data, the system makes your smart device your display with the use of the App."

So with no wifi - no additional sensor info at all it seems to say.

Yeah. I've been looking for a deal on one. I'm in southern California and the weather at my home can be quite a bit different a couple miles inland. I'm interested in keeping an eye on humidity and temperature for my garden.

Yes but it appears that you would also need to buy a rain sensor. https://github.com/nordoff/rtl_433_to_wu might work. Basically just looking at getting a weather station for this purpose since Dark Sky is shutting down.

these are old devices and there are better solutions now that are more modular

the old ones break down easily too

FWIW, after having owned a few of their older weather sensors, I can tell you they don't last. The worst part is the INDOOR unit is always the one that fails. The outdoor sensors are rugged and durable, but do require periodic battery changes.

Wast of time IMO.

So, without wifi, does the entire left portion of that display become useless? That forecast panel wouldn't have any source material to draw from without a connection to whatever weather service it's using right? And the time and date would also be unavailable?

Please don't tell me the time flashes 12:00 12:00 12:00 all the time.

Is there any way to have logs of the daily readings? The use we would have for it is in gardening. I need to setup a sensor at a location I don't visit often where we want to potentially start a community garden to this would give us the data we need to know the conditions in a given period. I would love to invest the least on this so I can have a sense of what is going on...I'm willing to go every other week to check on batteries, etc.
