I was just at the local Costco and saw that the beef tenderloin filet mignon is $9.99/lb. One of the workers at the meat department said that he doesn't know why it is so cheap, but it's currently selling for that price (no coupons, special mark downs, etc.)

Must be regional, because mine doesn't show that!
I saw this advertised online for my location last night and planned to go today, but it has been removed. So if you don't see it then they probably sold out

Plenty at Marina location today. I got the prime for $15 a pound, which is about as heap as I've seen it in recent memory. Well worth the premium, and I've bought both many times. Also smaller packages. Choice were all 5 pounds plus.

Also alpha tolman cheese, one of my favorite domestic alpine cheeses.

I had received the emails about this deal on 7/24 and 7/25 and had planned on going in today. there were no signs, no one manning the meat area and no sale. I asked 3 people about the sale and got 3 different responses. one was oh i think we ran out, the next was oh i think that was a misprint and then the last said go find someone with a red vest. after checking out i asked for a manager and she was nice enough but would not give me a straight answer. If it was a mistake then just tell me so i am not wasting my time asking for rain checks. i mean i was just in the meat department and saw it was not out of stock it's just not on sale. we left off with her giving me her email and asking me to find the ad and forward it to her. when i know very well they had changed the website already because i checked on my phone after i spoke with that 3rd person. when i get home i find 2 emails with the sale price and amazingly enough there was no limit. I sent her the email and will follow up tomorrow, but honestly costcos as a whole has really let me down a lot lately.

Too much love for sous vide here, not enough for a simple reverse sear in the oven. I much prefer reverse sear, it dries out the surface, something that is much more important to getting a very crisp sear. Searing a wet surface is basically the worst possible start point. And I'm well aware that you can dry the surface of the steak before you sear it, fact is it will never come out as dry as if you oven bake it. I also like the ideas for smoking that some have come up with here too. There are plenty of articles you can read about this, I linked one below.

Are we all from the Bay Area in this thread? They had plenty in Santa Cruz today. Got three packs despite it disappearing from the online ad.

Plenty at my local Costco. It was at the end of an aisle in the meat area. When I got there at store opening, I estimated about 15 packages left. Didn't buy one but decided to go back and grab one 30 minutes later. By then, they had restocked it to full. Plenty of beef to go around.

If you are one of the lucky few to live in a city with a US Foods Chef Store, they have had tenderloin for between $6.79-9.50/lb over the last few months.

Charlotte, NC
Columbia, SC
Oklahoma City, OK
Tempe, AZ
Dallas, TX
Charleston, SC
Myrtle Beach, SC

We buy from several food suppliers for our food businesses, so these prices aren't crazy deals for us, but the Chef Store locations will allow walk-in customers, so you get access to distributor prices with no minimums or other requirements.
Thanks for this.

"choice" grade is a noticeable drop from "prime" grade. Its still good but don't expect a magnificent tenderloin like you'd get at a nice steak house.
