LOL, this was +70 and FP a couple months ago for $12 less and now it's TD? SDers are fickle af.
I dunno where those TU people are. NUC threads are like apple posts, more people arguing than actually buying one. You aren't wrong though.

Was the last one Amazon direct?

Really? That ruins these new NUCs for me then. Bad enough when Apple started pulling that on Mac Mini...

This is a good alternative to a notebook for a kid's room. Perfect for distance learning and probably good for playing Minecraft and Fortnite. I wonder how hot it might get playing games.

I don't think they all are. This is a weird Intel proof of concept type deal with a strange processor IIRC. This one isn't new, the new ones I think are upgradable again.

Yea, the soldered ram is a deal breaker. I was almost in the prior deal until i checked into specs. This is a very odd NUC as all the others i have used had upgraded RAM slots.

I bought one and it was new in the box. I don't know if i just got lucky or something. In original box and with all accessories still shrink wrapped.
Now the bad part. I added a NVME and it work great until it goes to sleep. Then nothing will revive it accept turning it off which causes an error in windows 10 on reboot. I think its a driver or permission issue. I did not notice this problem on HDD. So i may swap it back and see if it fixes issue. Maybe the NVME isn't fully compatible. I updated bios on NUC and checked for NVME firmware but didn't see any available.

EliteDesk 705 G4 [microcenter.com] still $399 with 2 SODIMM slots with 8GB installed, 1 M.2 slot with 256GB drive installed, 1 empty 2.5" bay, 3 year warranty, and a better CPU/GPU.

I have an i3 8100 and 16 GB of RAM that I both got second hand for good prices. I'm trying to build a budget itx/nuc or compact micro atx but I don't want to spend a lot. It's going in a small room, hence the need for something small-ish. Any one have suggestions? I was hoping I could get a barebones kit with just a case and motherboard.
