No it is not an upgrade, the Orbis are better. As for your buffering issue do you have them daisy chained where one RBK20W has to go through another RBK20W before talking to the router, that is probably causing your main issue if you do?
Yes both the TPlink and Asus Onhub on latest firmware will mesh with this google puck, but honestly your better off just getting another Onhub, its a lot more powerful and cheaper.

I just got the M9 Plus 3 pack from Costco for $199. A better deal for better coverage in my 3-story home. M5 for speed if you can do Ethernet backhaul, M9 for wireless speed and coverage.
Could you please elaborate on the "m5 for speed" comment? I was under the impression that the m9 would be better for speed because of tri-band vs the dual-band of the m5.
