I've had a dehumidifier for almost 20 years. It's older than my own (biological) children.

Since this is an energystar certified model, check https://www.energystar.gov/rebate-finder for possible rebates available. In my zip code, my utility is offering a $30 rebate for this model.

Awesome, thanks! I was tempted to get 35 pint deal a few days ago but figured the 50 pint would go back to $150 soon. I always see it but I'm never ready to pull the trigger... but today I am.

If I am using a hose to drain the dehumidifier, is there any reason to get a larger size?
Depends on your level of humidity, temperature and the space. The pint rating has nothing to do with the size of the container which will be much much smaller. This is 12.6 pints. The rating is the maximum amount it is rated to pull out of the air in a 24 hour period under test conditions. A higher rating will be able to pull more water out of the air so if you have a large space/high humidity you may want a larger size.
The ratings have also decreased this year due to new testing standards/conditions to match more typical use cases so what used to be a 70 pint may be labeled as a 50 pint this year

The primary reason to get a bigger unit is so it can remove more moisture in the same time period as the smaller unit (usually in 24 hours). So if you have large room or high moisture area you'd want to consider larger size dehumidifier. Of course larger usnit consumes higher energy.

Just ignore them. They are probably projecting their own stuff.
